Answers to your questions. If Shelby took the car physically "in-house" and finished it, there would be problems. Shelby, as issuer of the MSO and therefore the manufacturer, cannot complete the car legally without complying with DOT requirements. Finishline, as a contractor to complete the car, can finish it up and is...with Shelby "watching" as close as it possibly can without stepping over the line. Kirkham also could've finished it up...as a CSX. It would've been stepping in the same shoes as Finishline, as a contractor...the MSO still would've come from Shelby. The engine would've come from the same place it is now. It would've been a CSX, not a Kirkham. Hunt would not release the car without a release of liability for his actions up to that point...that's why the car is being completed in Vegas. First smart move I've seen the buyer make...NOT releasing Hunt until he gets the complete car. I don't doubt how the race to get the car completed will finish...the car will be done. Folks need to go back and read...Fenimore offered to complete the car to roller status as far back as July, 2004...as far as he could go. Folks blaming Shelby for THIS matter are wrong...it was Hunt and a passionately blind buyer. Cold, but true. I'm having more fun watching the race among all the folks jumping in to claim they called Shelby first! |
Curt, Thanks from all of us keeping up.
Curt,
Speaking for myself, and hopefully the vast majority of those reading and posting on this thread, I truly appreciate your offer to visit Finishline and upon return, post some pictures of Dwayne's Cobra with people swarming over it as it nears it's completion. As we have prior pictures posted earlier in this ever-growing thread of progress made on the car that has taken over two years, some visible proof- hopefully with humans included, and working, will go A LONG WAY to easing the tension this thread has caused. My true fear, as I believe is common to most posters, is that the cancer beats the car to the finish line. I lost a very close friend, and fellow founding member of the Texas Cobra Club to brain cancer in 2003. Dick lasted almost three months and at least he had time to get things in order before the cancer took him and i think of him every day. This just hit WAY too close to home for me, so I truly hope you can return with some very positive visual proof that Roy Hunt is finally making good in a promise. I am waiting, with my fingers crossed behind my back for some good luck for a change. John Russell |

You mean Carroll don't you? ;) |
Turk writes:
"That is why I was questioning the wisdom of taking the car to Provo, and reliefing the obliged from their responsibility of finishing a job they had agreed to and got paid for." " reliefing" What the heck is "reliefing" "People, who live in glass houses, shouldn't........"  Paul |
Neither should those who live in tents...
If after reading what I posted you walked away thinking it was an effort on my part to correct someone's spelling, I must have failed to convey my message. That happens to me and others whose native tongue is not English, we make so many grammatical and spelling errors, the essence of what we were trying to convey gets lost in the translation. The difference between illeteracy and ignorance is getting wider. TURK |
Dwayne, I am very sorry to hear of your troubles. I have found it difficult at times when I was having my car built. Carroll as I understand it, probably doesn't know of your problems with having your car built. I also know that he would not be happy at all to hear it. You might try to talk to Jim Wallace. He helped me somewhat. I have to say, it is difficult at times, believe me I know, you need to be persistant. You have to understand too, that Finishline is the dealer and there isn't a whole lot that anyone at Shelby can do except push for you. They do after all controll who is and who isn't a dealer for them. Good Luck! You can email me if you would like.

Alright, just a little humor around here, but to let you all in on a little secret, "none of you men can spell worth beans." Your grammar is atrocious, your spelling is worse than my second grader's, and the lack of punctuation is appalling. Now don't we all feel better. I've given up trying to correct the lot of you a long time ago. I try to teach by example. You gentlemen "yelling" at each other about the errors is laughable; in your corrections you make errors! Anyway, carryon (or carrion as Freddie would say). Dwayne, when you have your beautiful Cobra, and spend one evening reading this novel in your honor, may you have a good chuckle at everyone's expense! Our very best wishes and thoughts are with you. Take Care.

Supersnake,
You obviously have not read the last three pages of this post. |
You are absolutly right. Will do so right now. Kristen, very well put. Car is beautiful.

Kristen....   You go girl!
In all, I feel a little better about Dewayne's chances with 7 days left to go for the deadline. I am ALSO glad that the much rumored 'behind the scenes' factors have come to light because I, unlike Turk, believe that all of us on the forum WANT a happy ending. It would amaze me that ANY of us, in spite of our personal differences, would desire this project to fail just so they could grind an axe a little sharper. I have added respect for CS, and I still feel that the 'Shelby bashing' was in poor taste IMHO. I am uplifted to see that so many of us, from so many different places can all pull for something and that it just might come to pass. I HOPE that Roy Hunt sees the same light, and values his word to some degree at last. Now excuse me, so that I read over this 2 or 3 times to avoid being red penned by Kristen! :p |
OK. I have read the last 3 pages. I can tell you this. My engine was somehow lost, and I would still be waiting for another block if Carroll Shelby had not stepped in. Chris Wiesberg will confirm this story. Carroll gave me one of his own personal blocks CSX414. I have spoken to him several times and even had a drink with him in Michigan. He does care very much about what goes on in his Company. Again, he can't control everything that goes on with his dealers. Who is going to Vegas 9? Already paid for my track time and can't wait.

I know this is a minor issue, but I believe there should be a question mark after the word better. :MECOOL: :MECOOL: Sorry |

Hang in there Dwayne Old Boy
Ladies & Gentlemen,
New progress photos can be found in my gallery. I used a better camera this time too. Computerworks, when you get the chance move them to Hogdealer's gallery and post the link again please. As you can see from the below pic, the motor is now at Finish Line and on the crane. All wiring and plumbing appear to be largely complete. Carb, tranny, clutch assembly and radiator are all present in the bay and ready to be installed. Mr. Hunt remains optimistic about delivering the car on the 15th. Let's remain positive and keep our fingers crossed. I also took a couple of pics of the interior of Finish Line. Beautiful palce; I do enjoy going there. Curt |
Curt, great work! Thanks for the update. It's nice to hear Roy Hunt comment on the finish time and be optimistic about it. At least we know progress is being made.
