Default Seat

Scott, That's a good starting point and the way you should proceed. The legs that Morris made are nice and I am sure he made sure they are safe but, we have never done one that way. We mount them in a similar way that NASCAR does in their Cup Cars.

Morris,
The Original seats did not use the cutouts on the outboard side but slid the belts underneath the cover because they were going straight down to the mounting tabs anyway.
I willl gladly send you the money for the stitching. It would have cost me $20 after the fact. $10 per hole.
Give me your address again and I will send a check.

BTW On all new orders, holes will be cut in and out so, if you want as per original and no outboard holes, you will have to specify.

Actually, you need to make the back verticle tubes parallel with the seat and attach to the seat back to the bottom. At that point the tube can be heated and angeled towards the tabs where you would weld the feet to get to the tabs. I am going to e-mail Ron some photo's from a restoration on an original Comp Car using a NEW fiberglass shell for the comp seat and what it looked like. I will ask him to post on this thread. I am not good at the picture thingy.

Default Seat Tracks

You can use seat tracks but comp cars didn't use them for safety reasons.
The seat was mounted once for the driver and that was it.

Here's a shot of the bottom .... we raised the front of the seat so the back was at about 20*degrees......

The rear tab just sits on the floor....and we installed nut serts in the tab and legs...

And as you can see we also mounted the back of the seat to the chassis.....

The triangulation on the bottom and the back of the seat mounted to the chassis ..provided a solid mount for the seat ......

Infact the seat was so solid .... the driver went moving around in the seat.....

And here you can see the angle of the seat ....... front to rear.....

The legs and the tab at the rear....mount to existing tubes that are under the floor..... so the seat is mounted to the chassis ...and not just the floor.... the floor is to thin and weak....

Default Here's mine finally...

Made front and rear brackets out of 1" square tube per Steve's instructions. The welding was pretty ugly, but cleaned it up with an angle grinder and painted it.

The picture is of the seat from the back, upside down on a work bench. I also spot welded the bolts on so I could attach it from under the car. Got too frustrating trying to reach the top and bottom at the same time.

Looks great.
Let me know how it feels when you take the car out.
The rake you built in should give you the extra leg room and sit you in the car as opposed to on the car with the standard seat.
Happy New Year

I've mounted the Ken Miles Comp Seat last weekend on my car.
This seat is awesome and it feels like "your ass is part of the car". Perfect!

I'll test the seat next weekend on an international Hill-climbing race in Austria. (http://www.laendle-classic.at/index.php?season=3)
But as it is worth every cent, I'm sure it will be a great feeling to drive the car around the corners!

I'll post some pictures ASAP!
Regards from Switzerland

Default test result for the Ken Miles Competition Seat!

And here the test result for the Ken Miles Competition Seat!

I've tested it on my car on the international hill-climbing race in Austria (http://www.laendle-classic.at/index.php?season=3)
Where the seat was mounted directly on the floor of my car.

This seat is fulfilling all expectations and he's giving a perfect support during the various turns on a hill-climbing track! PERFECT!!

This seats should be mounted on each Race Cobra and Ken Miles would be proud to have given his name to something perfect!

Regards
Alfredo from Switzerland

I would like to talk to someone about these seats. If someone knows who to talk to about getting fit for one, please let me know.

Jamo,

I love your omnipotent authority with respect to this site, you must be super smart...or bored...i can't figure out which one.

PS. I emailed the thread starter, but just wanted to comment here in case there was others that build these seats.

Hello
I'm driving hill-climb race's with my Cobra and this seat is one of the best parts I did change on my car.
It feels like being screwed to the car.
And the seat looks awesome and is a great quality. Yes, it cost's some $ but it is worth every cent.
If you've intention to drive your car on the track or at the hill, mount such seat on it and enjoy it.
Regards
Alf

Default Seat

The longest ride one has previously taken was to Alf in this thread. I do not know shipping cost to Germany but, it's got to be over $100. I ship from 07052. See what you can figure for a 20lb box and let me know if you want to order.
