What products and techniques do you use to clean and detail your car without leaving swirls and scratches in the paint?

The best products by far for paint care are made by Zaino Brothers. They describe proper techniques for each of their products.

Zaino does an excellent job of hiding scratches. You just have to have the patience to layer it (multiple coats) to get true, outstanding results. If you are in a pinch for time, Meguirs and Mothers both sell glazes that will do the job quite well. Just make sure you follow up with carnuaba wax, as the glaze will evaporate fairly quickly on its own. Also, use nothing else but either fine microfibre towels or 100% "USA cotton" bath towels. Rip out the borders/seams and they work awesome.

If you need to clean the paint, then use a clay bar first (Meguirs Gold does a great job), followed by a very mild polish. You get better results with a Porter Cable random orbit polisher and the correct foam pad(s).

For in between cleaning I use Meguires Detail Mist. This is pretty much what I use to wash the car.

No but I will suggest that you don't waste your time with it. Try the new Zaino CS product. I was skeptical since it sounded too easy and too good to be true but since it came from one of the most respected campanies in the business I gave it a try. I used it on my daily driver first and was absolutely amazed of the finish. It took about 15 minutes and would take less after trying it once.

Well I am on the other side of the bunch. I have used all the above products and now use Wet Paint alone. And so does many of the other people around here. I like it, and the more I use it the deeper the shine. I still use the Meguiars Detail Mist for a quick clean of dust. I used the Wet Paint on everything including the windshield and it works great. So before all the others start to tell me how dumb I am, use whatever you like best. I just tired them all and like Wet Paint best and I am not in any way promoting it.

The Zaino CS product can be used over a regular wax product (theirs or otherwise) however it can be used stand alone also. I used it without anything else on my Volvo and the results were amazing. I can't compare it to the Wet Paint product but I would highly recommend the Zaino CS product. As you mention, Zaino also has multiple products for specific purposes. It just depends how involved you want to get. All of their products are excellent but the CS product is the easiest product I have ever used and the results awesome.

I am not trying to start nor will I engage in any argument about which product is best. I have used them all and they are all good. I found out about the Wet Paint from some guys at car shows and many here use it. To me it is the easiest to use and I get just as good of a shine from using it as any of the others. I use it on a White and a Red car and it looks great. And as I said, I also use it on the glass and bugs just slide right off with a damp cloth. As for which is the better product, you will get a dozen answers for that. To me after trying them all I just liked the Wet Paint best and it is easiest to use. I have used a clay bar a couple of times on my old driver as it has some deep scratches, but no polish is going to take them out.

Ivan,

The Clay Bar is just that. A bar of clay that you use to get out deep dirt that is in scratches and clean the finish before waxing. I never use it any more. I think I got one from Griots along with some of their waxes and polishes to try out one time.

Ivan, you only need to use a clay bar on a car that has a lot of surface dirt and other contaminates burrowed into the paint surface. Most daily drivers suffer from this problem; most garage kept and leisurely driven Cobras don't. I can clay bar a whole car in less than 30 minutes...the trick is to keep the surface wet (with the solution they provide) and keep kneeding and turning the clay so that you use a fresh side. They really do work! Following the claying with a good polish (machine buff is best), followed by a glaze and then carnauba wax. If your paint is already in primo shape, then just use the new Zaino CS or the Wet Paint Glaze. If you have the time, the layering effect of the Zaino Z5 will actually fill in small surface scratches...they just disappear!

A couple years ago I would have argued for Zaino, but there are so many good products out now that it is hard to make a bad choice...only some choices are slightly better than others and comes down to personal preference.

Also just tried WET Paint It is awesome!! Much easier to use and take off. I have a black Cobra and with WET PAINT there are NO STREAKS. Take's about 1 ounce to do the car. Works great on glass and Granite.. Used it on our countertops also. Zaino is ok, but this product far surpass's it and much less work.

I will have to try that granite countertop idea. We definitely need a better method of treatment for ours and this sounds promising.

I had a guy come into my shop and sold me some "Fukkenwax" which is used on all the surfaces ,glass as well as chrome,it works like they say,takes bugs off etc, www.fukkenwaxit.com .In an aerosol can so it is easy to keep in the trunk.The can I have cost $20-00 and I have used it to polish maybe 10 cars so far and its still half full.I like it

I used Wetpaint and it worked great. Easy on and easy off. My Shelby is black base coat only and the paint looks great!
