I don't believe the covers will prevent burns and they will make the side pipe come out further and metal conducts heat quite well. Most motorcycles have covers, which you touch those pipes?

Furthermore, the area in which your leg would hit is NOT covered by the covers. (most only cover the muffler, which is too far forward)

I had vented heat shields on my BDR. Even after going down the interstate you could put your hand on the shields and they were only warm to the touch hence NO burns. The only way you could burn yourself would to be to touch the headers at the fender exit before the heat shields. You had protection as you entered or exited the Cobra. Contrary to some on this forum I liked them and they did there intended job.

I sold the car about a year ago but you can check my gallery for pictures. The shields came with the car but I think BDR got them from Finish Line.

I got vented shields from Finishline after my son and daughter got bitten.

They work - They get hot, but not hot enough to fry skin and the cool down very quickly.
