Default If I glass bead...

I recently have had a few challenges with my car.

I have a cracked throttle body on my carb and my side pipes are cracked.

SO, I am replacing the carb, but the side pipes I am going to have welded. Once welded, I was thinking of glass beading them.

They are ceramic coated and Lone Star will not warranty them as they are over a year old.

Here's the question: If I glass bead the pipes, will it destroy the ceramic coating over the pipes?

Second question: if your pipes were cracked and they were ceramic coated, would you weld and re-coat? What advice would you give?

Thanks

You have to remove the ceramic coating in the area you are going to weld.
If that will show then re-coat them. If not just hit with some VHT paint that matches the ceramic coating.

How are your sidepipes mounted? Are they able to move with the motor? If not, then maybe you need to mount them differently, so they will move. I posted picks of a possible solution earlier.

Default side pipes

My Lone Star side pipes cracked at the body mount location the first year. I had a local muffler shop to repair them. He ground the ceramic off the area where he was going to weld. He mig welded a curve plate (a piece made from a pipe) over the cracked spot. Then he welded the mounting bracket to the plate. 18,000 miles later and it's still good. He painted the spot with high temp silver, but later I had the pipes recoated. They can do a spot repair on the ceramic.
If you glass bead the pipes "very" lightly it will not remove the ceramic. Be carefull. Ceramic is a thin coating.

Dwight

This is the best pic I have of the mounting tab near the rear of the side pipe. This is where mine cracked.

That is the place they broke. Also happens to be on that side. The other break I can fix.

I will drop the pressure onthe bead blaster and clean it up before I cover it.

Thanks!!

Smile ramps

I made my ramps out of scrap wood and metal. You can make them out of wood and just paint them. I got the ideal from someone on the Form.

We arrive at the Hampton on Thursday morning. You Guys did a great job. Thanks and see ya'll next year.
