Polished or Satin? You be the judge...

A lot of folks keep quoting the "Scotchbrite and lacquer thinner" as the key. That's just to keep them up. Recall in the first post that I took the covers to a metal finishing shop and they cut the original satin look using belt sanders, flapper wheels and whatever they had at their disposal. To do this finish by hand with just sand paper/Scotchbrite pads is WORK...trust me, I tried that first. You'll have to start with some 180 grit to get all the scratches to go in the same direction...I honestly don't know how the Kirkhams do a whole car this way, but they do! The Scotchbrite pads (and there are different grades) knock down the finish so that it's more even. Then hit them with 0000 steel wool and it increases the shine (not pictured, but it definitely changed the finish on the tank that I experimented on).

Thanks again for the compliments. I figured that most would like to see a before and after. Polish is still nice, but sometimes a change is good.
