Actually most stations are not company owned. ConocoPhillips (the parent company of 76) owns very few stations, and I know most of the competition that was in the area of my stations (which covered three cities) and there was only one company owned Chevron. I know ConocoPhillips does not want to be in the station ownership business, and they are actually forcing dealers to buy the property under their stations. There is very little money in owning stations for big oil companies.
