Look, I feel as bad for the handicapped as anybody but I think it's gone a bit too far. Plus, I see people with handicapped plates park in non-handicapped spaces; taking MY space. I've also seen people with handicapped plates who are no more handicapped than me park in handicapped parking.

At a golf club I used to belong to we had to install handicapped bathrooms at the turn; forget that you had to step up to get through the door.

I'm dealing with building inspectors this week. Some of the regs are just plain ridiculous.

I've seen buildings with ground level entry in the front....no problem...but they have a back entrance that's 20 steps up. Sooooo, they have to spend tens of thousands on a three turn ramp. I mean why can't the handicapped person just go in the front????

Something to think about.

There are, of course, many non-handicapped (sorry, can't think of a better word right now) who have disabled children, brothers, spouses, etc.

Is it OK for them to use the handicapped parking slot when they need to pick up medicine, books, food, (whatever) for their loved one--even if they are not physically in the car with them?

As for me, I would gladly let a mother of a handicapped child park in a handicapped parking place ANY time she wanted to. She has enough to worry about and I am not about to add to her stress.

As members of a civilized society we do have a responsibly for each other. Having lived in societies where they don't care too much about human life or suffering, I can tell you I vastly prefer our own society--faults included.

My biggest problem is when 90% of the handicapped spots at my old job were occupied by people who were well over weight. Making the actual handicapped people have to park waaaay out in the big lot and walk up to 1/4 mile in the 100* sun!

OBESITY IS NOT A HANDICAP!!!!

Roscoe has a point. The regs are insane. If,as a business owner you wish to provide handicap access, great! But there should be no law mandating it.

David, the handicap person MUST be in the vehicle or yer gonna get a ticket.I witnessed a $1500 handicap stall ticket. All for(get this)a dozen donuts.

My wife qualifies for a Handicap tag.She has had both her knees replaced(Too much Rodeo & Cowchick stuff).Quoting her:"it'll be a cold day in Tucson before i get a tag".Now her mother needs a tag.But they don't give them out for mental issues ...yet.

Then there is my Father in Law.. wounded in WWII, who would not even fathom using a Handicapped tag. His pride would not let him.
