SPO1715,

But that number did not come from the Company it was issued by the State of CA under their SB100. That is where the difference lies. SPF normally come with about 4 or 7 if I remember correctly.

Correct, but the official VIN is the number issued by the state. This number is on a metal tag and it is riveted on the frame just like a regular VIN plate on any vehicle. The state could care less what the vehicle number is.

There's now rhyme or reason in CA though. Some CHP offices assign a new VIN and rivet a plate to the frame, while others use the chassis number assigned by the manufacturer (the latter is common with SPF owners in the South SF Bay area)
