Some Original Cobra Owners are Real Snobs
I just got an e-mail form my friend Howard who has a replica Cobra. He was at a car show down in Atascadero, CA and was parked next to an original Cobra. The owner asked the car show organizers to move his car as he did not want to park next to a replica. Then Howard asked if he would like to join us on our cruises and the guy said " I don't associate with replica owners". Now there is a person that does not deserve to own a car like that! Talk about a jerk! It was a good thing I was not there or he would have gotten such an earfull, he would have left. I have several friends that own original Cobras or Shelby Mustangs and they just like hanging out with any car guy and do not think they are above everyone else because the have a fat checkbook. I wish we knew who he was so we could teach him what owning a car like that is all about. He obviously hasn't a clue!

The other shoe, I'm sure some replica owners are jerks as well, thats life. I think this a rare example for either side.

Mike,
Was it an original, or just a Real(tm) one .
As for snobs, I ran in to a bunch of them driving FFR's last year while I was airing out a friends original 60"s Cobra here in PA Dissed by a fellow Cobra owner WTF ....Unfortunately, the shoe does actually fit on both feet...........

Well I guess there are jerks in every crowd. As for myself and Howard, we just like taking cruises and hanging out with anyone interested in cars. It doesn't matter to us whether it is original or a replica or if it is a VW. A car guy is a car guy to us. I appreciate all kinds of cars from sports cars to hot rods to classic and vintage. Every car has good points and bad points, so my feeling is, appreciate it for what it is regardless. Thats what makes it fun. Besides comparing 60's technology against 2008 technology is just silly. If there weren't improvements in more then 40 years, then we are in more trouble then I thought. If I had the bucks, i would own an original myself, but since that will never happen, I fullfilled my dream with a replica. I just hate anyone that thinks they are better then others and act like snobs, whatever they drive.

You know when I read the title of this thread that old thread 'Dissed by a fellow Cobra owner WTF' about the Bill's experience while out driving one day instantly popped into my head. Enjoyed re-reading them all over again
The irony of this post is just fantastic and basically proves the point generally being made in Bill's earlier post, that it has nothing to do with the car.

brilliaint; made me laugh out loud; classic un-informed snobbery!
But there are bigots, and people inflicted with a 'superiority complex' in every walk of life, and many shades of grey of course...we all accept a fake snake (sorry replica..) , but what of a fake ferrari kit (fashioned from a mazda miata), or perhaps a fake rolex, or fake raybans????????
Anyway just thought Id throw that in the mix!!
My best 'its a fake' moment? Driving my old hawk Lemans locally, and a guy at a bus stop shouts 'fake, FAKE'...loud enough I hear him over the poorly silenced rumbling V8...:-)
Of course the bus he was standing and waiting for was 100% genuine :-) :-)

He probably just bought it at an auction. The long time owners have always seemed like great car guys.

More irony; and the really funny thing is there are as many true enthusiasts that have bought cars than have built them; Ive both built and bought cars and bikes; as far as I can tell its nothing to do with whether they built them or not; surely there are both great guys and not so great in both camps?
For me, I rest happy that the majority of people are decent, and only a tiny minority (less than 1%) spoil it sometimes; Im guessing you met a 1%er...

Every facet of life has it's jerks. Unfortunately that's just the reality of it. Usually these people lack some serious social skills, have no self value, and even less FRIENDS HAHAHAHAHA

The best way to explain all of this about guys like that is, those are uneducated rich guys. Those are the most ignorant people you can find in the world.
They inherited the money from someone else effort.

In my experience most of the guys with REAL money are actually good people. The people that want people to think they have big money are the a$$holes.

I have generally found no relationship between being an asshole and having or not having money, nor, between those that earned it or inherited it. I have met assholes in every finacial strada, and driving all types of cars. As far as the original owner that is the subject of this thread, it would seem to be heresay at this point.

My personal observations have shown that there is a greater frequency of "those kinds" of people when they do have large sums of money. However, here in Silicon Valley, and living close to the VC capital of the world, most of the money has neither been inherited or earned, but rather stolen from shareholders.

And even more so, Chuck.
FFRCobraMike neglected to point out here what he posted on FFCobra:

Howard said in his e-mail that it was an original AC Bristol
|
...so, it wasn't really a Cobra owner, but rather a Bristol owner.
I am uncomfortable seeing how this discussion is evolving, and I have to ask FFRCobraMike what was the benefit of starting this thread with the tone you used?
Actually after a quick look at your participation here, it seems you visit ClubCobra more to piss in the pool, rather than swim....so to speak.

I won't close this thread right now, but I'm real close.
The absence of the Bristol fact and the reference to Cobra owner s in a broad brush is just unneeded controversy.

I agree this entire thread makes no sense, should not have been started, and is utterly retarded.

Some people really need to get over themselves. Sounds like "new money" to me.
