It's good that you keep distance, as I do. When I come up on a slower car, and he doesn't move, I pass him safely on the right. There's no need for me to "enforce" anything to the slower driver, as many people on here feel compelled to do.

When the police start enforcing courtesy driving issues, then maybe it'll all be straightened out. But, I can tell you, when the traffic is medium to medium heavy, I will be in the left lane. My plan in life is to live and enjoy it, and not be involved in an accident by some AH cutting in front of me, trying to cross multiple lanes to get off of an exit, or crossing many lanes, dodging traffic to try to get 5 car lengths ahead, which is very often on a highway with multiple/many exits.

It's also appears to me that you still are very annoyed when slower people don;t get out of your way, although you say you don't drive aggressively.

If I'm in the left lane, and you come up on me, I give you permission to pass me on the right as well.

Stay Cool.
It is OK to get annoyed with people who don't get out of your way. I don't consider myself to be an aggressive driver, if I don't tail gate them. I'll pass them on the right if they don't move over. I don't consider myself to be an aggressive driver when I just continue on my way instead of trying to slow down in front of the slower driver when I pass him/her. However, the slower driver should be courteous and get out of the way. If I see someone coming up faster behind me and find traffic to the right, I'll sometimes speed up to find a gap in the slower lane to get out of the way.

A couple of years ago, I found myself behind a passing lane hog who was doing around 50 in a 55 and who was also pacing the driver in the slow lane. I was not tail gating, and finally saw a gap, passed on the right and shot up to about 70 or 75 rather quickly in my "arrest me red" RX-7. I checked my rear view mirror to see the passing lane hog was disappearing behind me, when I noticed there was a state trooper directly behind him (so the trooper was behind me before I took off). Shortly after that, the passing lane hog moved to the right, so the trooper could pass him. The state trooper eventually passed me. I wonder if the trooper had to flash his lights or beep at the moron to get him to move to the right? Maybe the lane hog thought he was making way for the trooper to chase me. But he was wrong.

All I'm trying to say is, if you see nobody in front of you and a whole line of cars behind you, why not try moving to the right. Or if there is a constant stream of cars passing you on the right, consider moving to a slower lane. Instead of taking pride in annoying others, why not try taking pride in yourself for not annoying others?

Bingo. Thanks 1ntCobra - That is what is called consideration to others - and awareness.
If a few more people on the road observed this, what a nicer drive it would
be.

This thread sure has gone on but has been an interesting read - and does
illustrate why driving isn't what it could be.
