I Broke My Cobra
Well, it finally happened. Last practice session at NERC and I put my car into the tire barrier at the entrance to turn 6, the bowl. Sh#t!!!!!!
Wiped out the lower control arm, shock, and bent the hell out of the 3/4" squares on the front. Body damage is headlight, right front nose and fender cracks. Some internal aluminum deformation. I don't know if I hurt the motor yet.
On an up note, I'm okay and during practice laps I was running 1:23's and 1:24's. That would have been good enough for a third place in SP class small block. Oh well.
Hey Cranky, you had better watch your butt. Don bought a set of slicks and is gonna be lookin for you. He got a kick out of the mirror decal you made me. You will have to ask him who the plumber was that created his exhaust system.
I did determine that I need suspension work in a very bad way.

Have to start another club
Hank,
Sorry to hear about your misfortune. Maybe a little rubbing compound and your car will be ok.
Since most of us Glen regulars already belong to the 10% club, perhaps we should start another club for us racers that have encountered the wall.
I am not soliciting any new members for this club but counting those that are in already. Man a lot of us have crashed.
Hope you get it up and running soon and glad to hear you are ok.

crash
I could'nt help but notice the comment that "many of us have crashed".
It would be helpful if the ones "experienced" with the wall would elaborate on what went wrong, what circumstances or driver errors, or handling quirks of the Cobra were the cause. Sharing these expensive lessions learned will benefit all.

Hank
Seeing your damaged Cobra was heartbreaking but you're OK and that's what really matters.
I really think that you and I would have a quite a duel in SPA. I guess that we were in separate heats because I don't recall ever passing you in practice nor did you pass me. I managed to get down to a 1:23.4 which probably would have had us neck and neck.
I'd love to get down to the 1:21 that Bruce Howard ran but that's a bit of a stretch.
See you next year.

Thanks guys. Appreciate the kind words.
Niles, the occurance of my crash resulted from pushing the braking zone to the point where I missed my brake point by about 5-10 feet and locked em up. To late. I know the car pretty well. Turn by turn you learn a track inorder to optimize braking zone and turn in points. Constantly trying to optimize those and other aspects for a better time.
Tim, you and I were out in seperate groups. I was ahead of Bruce once, and that car is really hooked up. If you saw his photo coming out of turn 9 on the photographers shed, his front wheel is lifting and he's level as can be. My best practice lap time was 1:23.16. I had to hit it right, as my tires were going away fast, after 4-5 laps like grease. It would have been interesting.
Bill, thanks for the offer. Regarding Mr. Karns, put everything Billy says throught a sh%t filter.
