There is no "Shelby" GT40 continuation car, it is the "Superformance" GT40 that has been accepted by numerous vintage sanctioning bodies. There is a "Shelby 85th" version of the SPF GT40 but that is merely a trim option.
The Superformance GT40 "R" has competed in SVRA, HSR and with the correct options is eligible for FIA historic events as well as the Rahal Vintage series in the US.
Efforts are underway to allow the new Superformance 289 FIA/USRRC cars to compete in some sanctioning bodies to help fill fields that are becoming increasingly small due to reluctance of owners to risk mega-expensive cars. To a spectator there is little difference in an alloy or composite body if the chassis is the same and the driver is putting on a show.
