I am trying to figure out how much horse I am dealing with I have a 460 with new stock crank ,rods and pistons. 30 over, high volume oil pump, late 60's 429 heads fully machined 3 angle valve job ,valve guides springs etc... comp cam roller rockers 1.7 ,mild comp cam, edlebrock proformer intake and a edlebrock 750 carb.

Vincent,
On the heads you say they are machined, are they ported to remove the exhaust "bump" that is pretty restrictive? or just the 3 angle valve job. Its hard to tell from the information but guestimating you should be in the area of 450-475 hp with 500+ lbs torque.

The 460 in the Merc has the following specs; bored .060, ported 72 Lincoln heads, 3 angle valve job, line bored and decked.020, flat top hyperutectic pistons, ballanced, comp cams 270h cam kit, standard oil pump (75# cold @ 2000 and 60# hot @ 2000),Edelbrock performer intake, Edelbrock 750 carb,2"primary tube 3.5" collector hedders, 2.5" exhaust into flow masters,it has approx 9.75 to 1 compression and runs great on 93 octane pump gas, oh the ignition is stock Ford with a Mallory box. The Dyno 2000 program shows 475-490hp and 525-550 ft lbs torque. I hope this helps.. Carl

Remember, that's horsepower potential, not actual. If that motor is not tuned properly you could be off by 75+ hp. Parts mean nothing if they are not matched and tuned properly.

And get rid of that edelbrock...

Vincent,
Sounds very similar to mine. Same car. What ever horsepower it is,
it a handful. My car is fast, loud an runs like a scolded dog. Trust me, it won't matter what the numbers are, your going to have a blast. Mike

I'm with Roscoe. Get rid of the Edelbrock! You will most likely see a upgrade in performance just from that alone.
