steering column

I drilled the marked holes in the dash and fire wall and inserted the steering column. The column is pointing towards the left fender... and not parallel to the engine. Is this how is suppose to be ? Any pictures?

It should be straight. I guess you cowl bar is bolted down so you can't move it. Might have to open the firewall hole a little bit to make it straight. For some reason I didn't take pictures during that part of the build.
Just wondering what steering column are you going to use. I am using a Ididit. I'm not impress with the quality. Horn grounding wasn't attatched and every time I use the turn signal the horn beeps.

I made my own with the help of a friend..3/4" SS DD shaft with a factory five hub, VW turn signal and a Tri States tube to support it....looks original! I opened the hole in the fire wall so the bearing could be moved over, now it lines up.
