Yes about 1 1/2 -2 hours from Phoenix you will be in 6000-9000 feet elevation and the temps are about 20 degrees cooler with tons of snow skiing in the winter time. Tons of lakes for fishing with 90 minutes from the valley. 100 foot fine and oak trees in the mountains. I lot of people are retiring and moving up there from Phoenix to live there year round these days. Those of us that our brains are already cooked stay here.

This is sounding very promising , my cottage is two hours away now so no real change . I'm guessing prices are not as depressed as Phoenix ? or is there really a Santa clause Virginia .

Payson, Pine, Snowflake, Heber, Show Low, all nice. Plus a bunch of Cobras go to Heber every year. They could all stay with you

"I think Payton was in outdoor life magazines top 10 outdoors man towns ." Boy, they must have gotten thier wires crossed. That may have been true at one time, but I don't think so anymore. It's full of trailer parks and retirement communities and indian gaming opportunities. It's just a cross roads leading to other "outdoors man towns" like Heber and St. Johns.

Or it was a Boys Life magazine from 1965.

By the way, the road from Heber to Holbrook is a straight "go fast" road with little traffic. Good place for test flights.

SDY, You probably got it right. Payson used to be a great town if you were a rancher or a lumberjack or made your living out of doors. Today it's become a town of retirees and imports. The fast food joints out number the good eatery's. I don't believe they even have a gunstore in town anymore.

Danr, oppppportunity knocks. "I don't believe they even have a gun store in town anymore" Sounds like a good place for you to spend some of your money and open one up. Think about all the guys from the valley that would come up to visit you and sit around the wood stove, telling lies and farting. Count me in and you know that the Pinkster would drop by on his way to Heber.

Hijack a thread? Not me.

Have you ever had an F16 fly over at 600 ft. off the deck? I guess not or you wouldn't be asking..

Back when Arizona Motorsports Park was operating, I was almost directly under the F-18s as they come off the end of the Luke runway at full afterburner and go near-vertical. Veeeerrrrry niiiiiiiice sound. Gotta love it. Might be a little loud if you're trying to sleep?

Been around F-18 awhile back on the same airfield , Didn't remember them being that loud , But It was an airport so I guess I didn't put a lot of thought into it , You knew when they were coming and going . But I've lived by the train tracks and in the heart of the city , Its noisy everywhere . Hell , living near me in my late teens early 20's was probably pretty loud to , at least that is what neighborhood watch might have mentioned to me on occasion . Not like the kids are letting me sleep in anyway lol
