Any preferences to manufacturer? My experience has been limited to .45 Spingfield XD and H&K 9 mm and H&K .45. I plan to shoot a 1911 next time at the range to get the feel for one before I look to buy one.
Thanks
Springfield make a number of fine 1911"s. Colt, Kimber etc... The feel of a 1911 should be the same for the different mfg's. At least they did to me. On another note I do not like the grip of the 1911. I replaced mine with Hogue grips.

I have two Kimbers and a Colt. The Kimbers are smoother, but the Colt shoots better than I do. I would say that most 1911's can shoot great with a little work on the trigger, slide and feed ramp.
