Used to have a savage 99 in 250-3000a with a Lyman #2 tang site. Great rifle. Should have kept it.

Uh, we never agreed to use shotguns to hit the 2 inch target at 50 yards, did the rules get changed and I missed the post? tin-man

Nope, this is betwix Mikie and tin-man, I got 100 bux that sez Mikie can't hit a 2 inch target at 50 yards with his Henry and if he wants to raise the bet by another 100 bux, I accept the shotgun with a 1 inch slug, same target.

Mikie whatever, I hope we can do this over Christmas holidays so I can be there to enjoy the event. Now as far as me doing it with my Ruger I'll need some practice time since its been a while since I shot it, bout thirty years actually, so I am guessing when I retire at the end of April will give me the opportunity to practice for a few months.

Whaddaya say Mikie we on for the shotgun?

Cheers, John, AKA, tin-man

Grats Mike.

Bob:
Henry doesn't make a 45-70.

Mike you should come out to the Cowboy shoots and play with your new toy.

Scott

And I'd wager against both of you hitting a 2" target at fifty yards (assuming you only get one chance). However if prone or on a bench and you have a bit of time I suspect both will hit.

Scott its a closed bet, I saved up 200 bux so I can pay ta see Mikie enjoy his new toy plus his shotgun with its padded butt. BTW we did not state how many shots we could fire or if prone or bench, or if we could attached an large telescope to either of the weapons, that's another discussion for another time, we gotta let Mikie feel comfortable with his weapon first.

Hell its worth one hundred bux just to get the old ticker pumpin' and I am guessing Mikie is full of all the stuff that make olds guys ( sorry Mikie , no offence) young studs again and is rarein' to go and prove one more time why he's "da man".

I on the other hand am just jazzed beyond all reason that I is finally coming home after being gone for so long.

BTW Scott what's a Cowboy Action Shooter, do tell?

Cheers, John, AKA, tin-man

Tinner, what's become of the idea of a caravan to bring your vehicle back to the land of the cold sun? I'll fly over the drive it back for you if you like.

Scott,

Henry has a 45-70 in development and is scheduled to bring it out in the Spring of 2012.

I'll just stay with my 45LC.

I wish they would build a 50-90 like they used to.. That is a hell of a round.

Henry's were only offered in 44 Rimfire originally. The 50-90 Sharps cartridge was far too powerful for the original toggle link action in a Henry. The current Henry BigBoy Rifle is an amalgam of a variety of Lever Actions but is pretty much limited to pistol caliber rounds. They apparently make a 30-30 action that could handle 45-70 I suspect but 50-90 is quite a bit longer and has never been used in a Lever gun.

I have a few 45-70 rifles that are fun to shoot including a Shiloh Sharps and a Trapdoor.

Now I have to go back and look.

In any event, I've sent the usual culprits a short clip on the new .700 caliber TRex WTF rifle. Shoots an 1132 grain paper patched bullet at about 2200 fps. Watch the clip. It looks like fun.

I hadn't heard about the 70 cal Trex. I remember the .577 cal from 93 and that looked like a beast but the .70 whoa. Which reminds me. You all should consider a ride out to the Big Sandy shoot . Usually happens twice a year. Next one is 30-31 March, 01April 2012.
See below for details.
