Just got back from Barret Jackson, 71 degrees and so many cars it was like I had died and gone to car heaven, saw about 20 cobras, mostly csx dealers, backdraft, and the new 351 winsdor Hemi head which is said to produce 725 hp naturally aspirated, they had it in a csx which had to be modified to make it fit, the FE looks better in the car, anyways it was fun.

ford racing - we were there at the same time. I agree with that 351 "hemi" - great drag racing motor but horrible for a cobra. Saw Todd Andrews again from superformance and saw Tin Man's car. Found out Superlifts(whom I bought my lift from last year at the show) has went out of business. So much for my "lifetime"warranty.
I agree with Bob - there were much nicer cars out there this year but too many to see them all in one day without dropping over dead. They clearly are boosting up the amount of cars to try to keep up with a bad economy(not that I blame them)

Russo & Steele
Spent today at Russo & Steele Auction. They have about 700 cars. They advertise mostly muscle cars and that seems true. They also had a good quality selection including 2 SPF, 1 GT40 and a couple other cobras. One was a CCX and one a CPX???

Went to the Silver Auction at Fort McDowell Casino. About 250 cars but NO cobras. Level of cars like MotoExotica and GRG auctions. However, their bidder seats were full! The other 2 auctions had mostly empty seats. Don't know why. Might just be time of visit. I then went back to B-J for another day. I'm done with auto auctions for this year.

FFR Cars at B/J
Check out the results on-line for the FFR cars vis-a-vis CCX and SPF. One owner from Tucson (I think) brought his just completed roadster (150 miles) for auction and suprised himself for sure when it sold for $66K!! Several FFR's sold for more than the competition (SPF etc). I was pleased with the responses to the FFR cars this year...mmmmn, should I sell and look for the GT40 replacement?

If someone bought a FFR for $66,000 they need there head examined. Unless it comes with a SOHC cammer fully built.

There are a lot of emotions involved in some car purchases. If the car is just right and you've got the cash, sold! We talked about that FFR in the SPF booth and the BB SPF that sold for 46K. Auction timing, paint, bidder competition, etc. Many building blocks for the sale. Congrats to the FFR seller.

Absolutely right, Bob. And BTW, Tinny did get in touch with me and Lance has the green light to let his car go for $115k. And while he did not say so, I'm sure there's a little room for negotiations as well.

For the right buyer, it's a bargain. It's a heckuva car.

Sorry, I'm lost. I must have missed a huge thread while I was out of town during the holidays.
Maybe someone could please PM me the why's, what's, where's and how's of what happened with Tinman and his car. Thank you in advance.

How so? For it to be a "bargain" he right buyer would have to be someone who craves a $100K plus fiberglass SPF - with an automatic trans to boot. I have to admit, in the back of my mind I saw the whole saga as a disaster waiting to happen from day one and I wish someone somehow would've had the ability to convince Tin Man of that before people ended up getting hurt - physically, emotionally and financially.

Tin Man is one of us but he lost about $30,000-$40,000 as soon as he took delivery. An almost new csx sold for $125K which was the highest I remember in about 2 years. The SPF that went in the 40's was nice as well. Not as nice as tinny's but the automatic will hurt his chances. I wish him the best nonetheless.
The prices overall at the auction were much higher than last year but he will hard pressed to get anywhere near that price.

Yes, but that's not as crazy as you might think. The car is indeed a "bargain" because, IMO, it can not be replicated for $115k. Now, a lot of folks might not look twice at an automatic transmission Cobra. But, having said that, there are quite a few men out there that, for various reasons, can not drive a Cobra with a stick. Then, if you add to that the engine, customizations, computer controls. roll bar, one-off pedal config, etc. and tally all that up -- if that is the configuration that you've always wanted -- this car is a steal for you. Now I followed his build pretty closely because I found it to be interesting. If someone else was following the build because it was exactly what they had always wanted to do, then GP1482's phone will be ringing this week. And I really hope it does. Even though I always had my misgivings about this entire build, there is a soft spot in my heart for Tinny and his whole plight. I'd really like to see that car land in the hands of an owner that will enjoy it, run it hard, and post some good-time stories about it all.

Anything can happen at Barrett Jackson
For that car at that price to be considered a bargain anywhere outside of the buyer's mind, he or she would also have to be someone who does not know that they could have a far more valuable (desirable?) Kirkham with a Keith Craft powerplant -and an automatic- for similar money. Or a similar fiberglass car for far less.
Remember that even the Tin Man, with all of his excitement and enthusiasm for that car, admitted he would have done it differently had he known then what he discovered afterwards.
But then, I suppose once the buyer thinks it's a deal for his money, that's all that really matters. If such a person actually exists, the hyped up atmosphere at BJ is as good a place as any to find him. For John's sake I hope he salvages as much of his investment as possible.

... and you might prove to be 100% correct. And, of course, numbers are always negotiable, so that may come in to play as well. AND, there's always the small, outside chance that the car won't sell at all and, coupled with some time, John might reconsider it all and take it back for one more try.

( I'm taking the bait Paddy ) Something in the back of my mind tells me that would be the least desirable outcome for Tin Man, sad as it may sound. I'm convinced getting rid of that car is the best and safest move he's made in this entire fiasco.
Who knows - If the BJ auctioneers are persuaded to take a positive shine to the car and really hype it up as a whizbang techno-Cobra instead of ushering it through unceremoniously as a fake, the numbers could surprise us all.
