Default Biggest/best brake setup for 15 inch wheels?

After a couple of days at the track come to a couple of conclusions-
1. Need better tires for the track but not willing to give up stock/ vintage look of 15 inch wheels
2. Need better brakes than stock Baer discs

2 questions-

Are there any drags radials for 15 inch wheels if I were to want to track more ?
Largest/Best brake system can I fit in the standard 15 inch wheel?
Thanks

These were the largest that would fit on my 12.2" rotors in 2006 -- 6 pin 15" wheels. The Wilwoods are the same size -- Wilwood 150-8854K (L//R, 1.75” bore) or Wilwood 120-3071-R, 120-3071-L (1.875” and 1.75” staggered bore)

Mickey Thompson makes some excellent Street Radial tires for 15". I've run 325x50x15s on the rear for years and they certainly do get sticky when they are heated up and have given me pretty good longevity. I've read several posts by people who have run then on all four corners and have been happy with them. Be advised, they are just a LITTLE dicey on wet pavement and worthless in snow. Thanks I appreciate the advice. Was the Willwood setup a 6 prison setup?

Default Best brakes for 15"

Good question. Kirkham used Wilwood 6 piston calipers with 12.2" discs for the no-expenses-spared billet car built for Larry Ellison, see page 17 here: http://www.kirkhammotorsports.com/im...aoe/aoe_12.pdf

I'm also looking for a decent set of brakes that fit the 15" Halibrands at the moment and would be interested in what others did.

I used Wilwood 12.19" rotors on my Hurricane with four piston calipers. I have 15" Trigo wheels. They were the largest rotor I could get to fit with that wheel. I think a six piston caliper would fit though. Where's it's really close on mine is the parking brake caliper.

Ron, Baer makes good stuff. You might be cheaper and wiser to ask Baer what pads you should use.

When I was at a Kirkham Open House, a Shelby dealer was there discussing using Wilwood brakes on CSX4000 cars with one of the Kirkham brothers. It may have been Tom. In any case which ever brother it was, he thought that the standard Kirkham brakes were better than the 6 piston setup used on the billet car.

Ron, if you talk to Baer, you might also ask them what size mastery cylinder sizes they recommend. I agree with Bob B that they make a good product and you may be able to achieve better results by changing to a different composition pad and/or master cylinder diameter to produce greater braking pressure.

I put a big 6 piston Wilwood calipers and large by huge rotors inside a 16" rim. I tried it inside a 15" and it almost fit, with smaller rotors it would have. The car has since proven itself on the track since, all due to plenty of brakes according to the owner/driver.

Brembo floating calipers with choice of different pads, street , race , in-between . Finishline Motorsports is gone but Gen-Two engineering has taken over and could help. Their in Las Vegas. Built the Spec. racers also.

I have some 12.2 4 piston kits that will fit the 15" pin drive wheels. I have also done a 11.75" 6 piston kits that fit under 15" pin drives.

Of course, everyone knows if you can't make the brakes any bigger because of rim diameter constraints, you make the tyre smaller in rolling diameter.

No point in spending 10k on brakes, and then still be running 60 series tyres etc.

A couple questions for you regarding brakes.

What exactly was the problem - brake "Bite" or fade?

I have kits that can be fitted to your car that will clear 15" wheels. I've even been about to fit 6 piston calipers under 15" pin drive.
