Go mechanical. If I looked down and saw zero oil pressure on my gauge (while driving) I would shi* a brick. Then, after i pulled off to the side of the road, I'd have to figure out a way to check the oil pressure without starting it. The only way I know to do that is to pull the distributor and spin the pump by hand. Not being able to do that by the side of the road, I'd have to be towed home. Once would be irritating enough, but twice... no, thrice? You gotta be kidding... trash that POS and get a mechanical gauge.

and the mechanical gauge does this better on the side of the road because you didn't know to turn the key to on to get the electrical sender to work?
i am just busting you..
as in all the years i've been screwing around with cars my electrical gauge has been just dandy. the 10 psi it may or may not be off means nothing with 60 psi of OP. after my first capillary tube hit my header and sprayed oil freakin everywhere i was done with mechanicals, yes they are differnt now but, why not use modern electric components.
if you start with good quality stuff it should last your lifetime
remember we are not doing le mans, these are street cars, oh and with zero OP the sound of the motor should tell you if it is correct or not.....the clatter would be deafening

Uhhh, just how much oil pressure do you think a car has when the key is on and it is not running?

With the valve cover off to see if the oil is squirting out. We know the gauge says zero, so there's no point in continuing to look at it. The other option is to start the car up... which is a roll of the dice.
