Knock Offs???

Is it normal to be a real pain to remove the knock offs?
I have a 4 pound sand filled plastic/rubber mallet and it got the job done but is was a pain.
I think being a 15" wheel it makes it a bit tight to get a good swing at it.
Would a "lead hammer" make it easier or just less damage to the spinners.
