What's your city MPG?

What are you guys getting in city play driving (MPG)?
I filled up this AM with 74 miles on the odo and it took 9.99 gallons.

twin turbo 07-27-2014 11:57 AM

13-14 mpg around town, 20 on the hwy.

jhv48 07-27-2014 12:54 PM

10 mpg in town.

13 on the freeway.

Karl Bebout 07-27-2014 03:14 PM

9-10 MPH City
12-14 MPG Hwy (downhill, coasting)ha

Bob Broberg SPF667 460BB 07-27-2014 03:28 PM

Rat Boy, you are playing too much. I get 12 to 14 in town and 18 to 20 mpg on the highway with my 460.

AZ Bob

rodneym 07-27-2014 04:29 PM

Between city and hwy I average maybe 7 :o

CSX3183 07-27-2014 04:31 PM

Are we really worried about our mileage, be it in town or highway. If you're worried, you bought the wrong car. Perhaps you need a Plymouth Duster?

Not as much fun, but you will sure save at the pump!

Not worried about the cost but here in AZ they like to do long road trips and I'd like to be able to make it to the next station.

About the same for me. I'm thrilled if I get 8.

I'm gonna try to drive like MikieC and see what I can get.
I don't want to carry extra fuel in the trunk, that can't be safe.

vatdevil 07-27-2014 05:23 PM

10 MPG city.....but when I open it up its better to measure in GPM

Bob Broberg SPF667 460BB 07-27-2014 05:37 PM

Dan, we try to schedule stops about every hour for both fuel and bladder reasons. For example, on the Laughlin trip we will meet in Wickenburg then stop in Wikieup for fuel/bladder then Kingman to eat and finally Laughlin. Each stop is about an hour apart.
The longest distance between stops is 75 miles so you would only need a 10 gallon tank and a fat wallet.

I'm pretty sure on the road it will have to do 15 mpg or so.
My first tank I got 10 mpg city but didn't play much at all.
Now that i'm getting more comfortable I play a bit more.

Danr55 07-27-2014 06:08 PM

"Now that i'm getting more comfortable I play a bit more." Does anyone else find that scary? Just kidding.. I get about 10 MPG with a 16 gallon tank.. I don't go far between fuel stops.. I haven't really stretched out this new motor thought so I'm talking "used to be". Maybe with all of the "STUFF" i'll get better mileage.. Anyone taking bets?

Worried?
I thought we were bragging?

I installed a Keith Craft 408 530 hp 540 tq motor into Mike Hodges B&B. Later he called and asked about fuel mileage. I laughed and said he should get the same as Coach Mike, 12 -14 mpg. He said he was getting 6.7 mpg.

I told him to bring it by and we would get Coach to checked the Quick Fuel carb.
Coach drove the car and then went to work. Checked timing, dead on, checked the power valve, etc. We called Keith Craft and talked to the engine builder / dyno guy. He told us they did not jet the carb for idle and cruise only wide open throttle.

Coach changed the jet and drop them about 4 or 6 sizes. Finished his magic work on the carb. Did a few test drives and made some changes.
Hodge drove it for a few weeks and then call me to tell me he was getting 13.2 mpg.

I'm a fuel injected guy. Coach is our carb guy.

Well, asking a question to an untold number of members, WITH an unknown amount of different engine sizes, horsepower, carbs, fuel injection etc., etc., is like asking a blind man to describe a horse.

How is 17 different combinations, going to tell you anything???

You can have long trips, but I dare to say you probably pass a gas station every 50 miles at least, so stop and fill up, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, meaning stop and enjoy your ride, don't try to be an idiot, and then need a tow.

I got about 13-15 on a normal driving routine. When we went to Colorado Springs and measured the tank down and back it was close to about 23 round trip for highway driving with some good stretches in 5th. About 2x better than my truck...

This is what I am hoping for, when it cools off here in AZ I will know for sure.

This motor runs so well I will deal with poor mpg before I mess with it.
I have never had a carb motor so user friendly.
