Well, just shows to Goya, those of us living right, have good things happen to them, or at least minor things that could have been a whole lot worse. The flange at the back end of my drive shaft had only one bolt left holding it to the differential flange, and that was only by a few threads. Trip to ACE, some nice new grade 8 bolts and some metal insert locknuts and its a done deal. Just for grins, I'll be applying a drop of medium strength lock tight, too. Would have been an ugly job, flat on my back, but once again the investment in a lift pays off.

Good for you. I'm glad it was a simple fix.

Doc, don't get all mushy. He's just lucky there weren't any mountains around.

U-joints and driveshaft flange bolts are part of my annual bumper to bumper inspection-day routine...
And now, they will be part of Karl's, too

The driveshaft running out of true could have put additional load on the transmission extension housing bushing (and seal). Keep an eye out for leakage and get the seal/bushing replaced if need be. Not a big deal to do, except for pulling the trans tunnel to get at the housing. I may have the bushing puller/installer tools if they're similar in size to a top loader. I haven't seen them in 30 years, but don't think I would have gotten rid of them.

Let's see... Grade 8 bolts, locknuts, locktight, and safety wire...?
Nah, There's nothing "overkill" about that
But if you REALLY wanted to be anal, you could also tack-weld the bolt heads to the pinion flange...
Oh, and don't forget to add a couple white nylon zip ties. Phx Mike probably has some you could use...

Oh yeah like you guys don't have any zip ties anywhere! Besides I already swapped them out for some clamps I made from billet stainless alloy...
Okay not really.
