Thumbs up

Dan - looks like both you and the Cobra survived with minor damage. Glad you're ok and the car is fixable. Be careful out there, but keep right on enjoying and living life.

You just HAD to one-up Karlos on the Canyon Lake road, didn't ya....???

That isn't a contest you should be trying to win, Dan. Let Karl wear his "King of the offroad Cobra" crown... Quit trying to take it away from him...

Can't you just hear Boris Karloff.... "It's Alive! It's Alive!"

Robert hasn't popped into CC ever since selling his Cobra.
No need to be a stranger, we still love ya.

I'm still around... And still struggling to invent time, where none previously existed. 2018 has started off right where 2017 left off in that particular department...

Rob, believe me I had no intention of trying to take the mountain climbing Cobra crown from Karl. This was a stupid thing that I did and I know better. I do regret it, and I would once more caution everyone about loosing respect for these cars or what they can and cannot do. THEY CANNOT CLIMB ROCKS! THEY CAN GET OUT OF CONTROL! Even after 11 years, I took what I estimated as a small chance and was stupid. Not a mistake i will make again. As for making time, split your skull and break your neck and you'll have more time than you can figure out what to do with. Surgery on Monday..

Two plates and five screws later I can say that surgery went great. I should be up and around in about 6 weeks

Well we're all glad that you can laugh about it now, even if it hurts a bit. It could have been much worse. Was there anything in particular that went amiss? ie, drop-throttle oversteer, just too fast for the curve, etc.?

Patrick, I started to make a u turn when the right front wheel got caught behind a rock. Rather than backing up and making a Y turn, I gave it a little gas to go over the rock. Well, it went over the rock and the rear end kept going. The tires broke loose and the ass end spun around and got off the road. That was enough for the front end to get in the dirt and enough angle and momentum for the car to roll. Had the road pavement been two feet wider, I would have been ok.

Wow. These cars are indeed twitchy.

Dan,

Gad to see that you are healing well and the car can be repaired. It is amazing how quickly things can go wrong in these cars. Wish that I had the camera on the car when I did the 360 at Watkins Glen. At speed and with the power that these cars have things happen quickly. Good luck.

Jim

Dan,

Not at all sure any extra traction would have helped in your mishap described above; on the off-chance it might have, here's a thought.

I notice the Cooper Cobra G/T tires on your car have a wear rating of 440. This indicates a sort of medium level of traction and longer wear.

You may want to consider replacing them with a 200 wear rating tire having noticeably more traction capability. There are quite a few available in different brands, sizes and tread patterns depending on your taste and intended use - e.g., some are better in the wet than others. Google is your friend and I suspect you'll have some time to research and decide.

Just sayin',

Tom
