Default Fountain Hills Concours 02/08/20

Peter Volney contacted me to let us know that registration is now open for the outstanding car show at Fountain Hills, this coming February 8th, 2020. The fee is again $60 with all proceeds going to the Phoenix Childrens' Hospital.
The entire park has been reserved and he is expecting even more cars than last year's 941. More vendors and activities are also planned.
This is a a tremendous car show in a beautiful setting and for a very worthy cause.
Register on line. Google: Fountain of the Hills Concours and follow the links.

We always wind up farthest from everything out in the south forty. I'm not going again.

I thought they were the outfit that excommunicated us from Cars and Coffee. We're not up to their standards.

Yup, think I'll pass this year. Not worth $60.

It's a concourse judged show, so I'm not surprised that anything but original Cobras would get preferential treatment. Like when I used to take the Ford GT to the Good Guys show. On Sunday "new" vehicles could get in for a fee. Basically, that fee got me a safe and secure with no door dings parking spot. I used the opportunity to walk around and look at the other cars but held no hope that I'd get anything for it (although I did get people's choice during the open Sunday two years in a row.)

I've been in contact with Peter Volny, expressing our concerns and dissatisfaction with the parking areas we've had the last two years. He responded that since they have a Cobra helicopter flying in and also a working Cobra simulator, he wants to have the Cobra cars parked with them.
Pretty much sounds like status quo.
Might be a nice day for a drive.

It’s not a concourse or judged show. It’s a car show for charity. Great cause but I will not attend....tired of parking half a mile from the other cars. I signed up for a membership to the Scuderia Southwest also but am not able to attend those events either because a replica Cobra is not a qualifying car.

No - and I did not ask. It’s really my fault for not reading the “car criteria” before I signed up. I had just assumed it would be like it always was and any hot rod, collector or specialty car would be allowed in. But after reading further it is clear that they are targeting “exotics, rare high performance and rare collector cars”

Below is what was posted with regard to criteria. It’s their deal and they can choose to allow whatever they want.....I just did not read all the details before signing up....for all I know they might actually let me in if I show up but I would feel out of place and would be embarrassed if they turned me away so I am just chalking it up to a lesson learned....

========================
Car Examples
We have limited space but the goal is to provide a lineup of rare cars that people will drive across town to come see.
What's included
Exotic - Lamborghini, Ferrari, Bugatti, McLaren, Ford GT, Audi R8, Aston-Martin, Porsche*, and exotic versions of Mercedes-Benz like the SLS AMG.
Vintage European such as Jaguar, Bentley, Austin-Healey, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and others like this.
Vintage American such as authentic 60's era American Muscle such as Shelby Cobra, Mustang, C1/C2 generation Corvettes, Chevelle, Camaro
Dodge Vipers, Z06 and ZR1 Corvettes, as well as Nissan GTR's, and Acura NSX
Anything else that's rare and shows well - a performance-to-the-max track car, or something rare and newly released like the new C8 Corvette
*At some point we may have to prioritize certain Porsches because we could certainly fill the entire parking lot with 911's.

What's NOT included - modern sedans, sport sedans, and coupes, SUV's and trucks. Examples would be sedan/sport sedan like BMW, Audi, Mercedes as well as modern Camaros, Challengers, Mustangs, base model Corvettes, etc.

The same place Kirkham contracted to get the bodies from in Poland, I'm guessing.

I always understood that aluminum Cobra bodies were "routed" through Utah before getting to Las Vegas for final assembly and sticker gouge.

Here's a video from 2008 where Kirkham was having the bodies produced in an old Mig plant.

Now we know the rest of the story for today! Tomorrow brings what may. Mikes Kirkham is unbelievable and should be allowed for the lack of an emblem from Shelby. Oh well, its there party. Why don't we hang out with all the 32,33 and 34 fiberglass Fords. Gear heads!!!

Yes all the Kirkham bodies (and frames) are produced in Poland at the ex-MiG plant which David now owns, before going to Utah for final assembly. As far as I know all the “non-1960’s” Aluminum Shelby bodies and frames and more are made by Kirkham. My car is essentially a 50th anniversary Shelby car without the badges.

Nonetheless like Gary says I would rather hang out with the other Cobras and hot rod gang. If I wanted an original car I would have bought one...

Mike.
