Recommendations for a trailer to move a Backdraft
I have been told that my Backdraft (finally) will be ariving next week and I need to pick it up at the shipper. I need to find a trailer to bring it home - i would expect that uhaul or someone else might have one but thought i would ask for recommendations. The BDR is minus the drive train so it should be lighter and sitting a little high - any help would be appreaciated -
Hopfully next week i will be sitting in the garage in the BDR and going Varoom at the top of my lungs - can't wait
thanks

If there are no local Cobra club members available, Uhaul has the perfect trailer for your car.................

I talked to Uhaul
Thanks Bill
I talked to uhaul and they said that the BDR would not fit on any of the trailers as it is too low - do you know which model trailer and i will just ask for it
thanks

i used a u-haul trailer two times to transport my spf, with 3-1/2 inch clearance at bottom of bellhousing. yours will sit higher than that w/o drive train....i had to remove their license plate to not have it hit the car and i raised the front end of the trailer to lessen the ramp angle. trailer worked great behind a navigator. a hd high gvw tow vehicle is required as their trailers are typically steel and weigh in at 2000+ pounds or so and they match the tow vehicle on their puter to the car weight gvw to make sure the puter says YES re adequate tow vehicle per their guidelines. i am guessing your car must weigh about 1850-1950 pounds as a roller so that helps in tow vehicle need. takes a class 3 hitch. trailers have surge brakes so no elec brake module is needed. now, getting that sucker up on the trailer without an engine will take some doing, how many friends will help you push it on/off. off is easier, once you get the front tires out of the recessed area if the trailer has them. but the uphill movement is tougher...\
when i used them 18 mos ago, they did not have 'cobra' in their computer for weight (they did not want to use my claimed weight from my spf spec sheets..duh) , but when i told them to try A/C with a 1964 model year, it suprisingly popped up as a vehicle in their data base. they probably have lots of folks understating the weight thereby requiring a lesser sized tow vehicle, so suspect that is why they use their data base weight files.
do not tow car with a car cover. do not tow car with a tonneau or top on. expect possible stone chips on front from tires of tow vehicle unless you can somehow protect it..however, anything you put on it that blows in the wind, ie car cover, will also abrade / mar your paint by whipping in the wind . so take your chances. if tow vehicle has mud flaps, then not as much a worry. \
good luck, enjoy the ride...if you know someone who will loan or rent an enclosed trailer, then you will be better off..especially if it is raining...duh. bet you figured that out already.

Hey, Harley...
Is your car being shipped to Anthem Motors? If so they can move it for you.
If not email me I have a name and number of someone who has a trailer you might be able to borrow.

Jim,
I just did the sime thing a few monthe ago my BDR it had block and heads and Tranny in it and I used a traler from U-Haul to get it from Pimbroke Pines to Orlando. Without any problem,
the hardist part is pushing it up the traler!!
Good Luck!
Matt

Jim,
Bummer about being laid off....
As I told Paul Gillespie.... These things usually work out for the best. Been there and done that.
I'll add your name and email to my list.

Thanks Hersh, Collin and Mike
Thanks to all that replied I got a lot of help from Hersh and he was kind enough to lend me his trailer - it worked great. I had a wonderful time looking at his cars, and talking - it just makes you want to go --- thank you Hersh
Collin (Stewart Transport) delivered the car right on schedule and helped me load it onto the trailer - thanks
I purchased the car from Mike and it is beautiful, and everything he said it would be - I am still waiting on a couple of parts but i am ready to get the engine in and on the street -- thanks
The BDR is in the garage, the engine and transmission are ready and soon as a couple of missing parts arrive I am ready for the next step - getting on the road
I got my first thumbs up from a guy passing me while i was towing the BDR to the house - it was great - and unexpected
Thanks again to all that offered help - I am so looking forward to getting on the road - and a job of course -
thanks - I am planning to make the Sept run -
jim
