Default Number of Old Cars Per State - Smog Impact?

Although not complete, this is pretty interesting stuff particularily when it comes to smog checks. The impact is pretty low among hot rodders on the environment, especially in Vermont...

http://www.sema.org/main/semaorghome.aspx?id=56863

It is not a big surprise that Cal has the most and highest percentage at almost 6% of the total vehicles in the state, there is no winter. It is interesting that they don't feel that a number that large is an impact to air quality. It is useful in the fight in other states...

As far as Hawaii goes - that 15,000 number of pre 1973 cars probably
applies to hotrods only, because there are plenty of pre '73 cars on the
road - a lot more than 15,000.

Look at Californias stats.
6% of the vehicle are pre 1973.
How many of the 6% are driven on the road daily?
How many of the 6% are stored or not running but registered?
How many of the 6% are diesel?

I'm sure that the pre 1973 vehicles isn't causing the major smog problem in California or any other state.
CARB and any other enviromental agency need to look some place else for the smog problem and leave the Hot Rod and Classic Car people alone.

SNOW?? Is that the white stuff I occasionally see on distant mountain tops in Southern CA??

As far as the SMOG problem in Kalifornia, I see so many BC (Mexican) plated cars on the road spewing crap out of the tailpipes that it make me sick!!

That was my point... If CARB does not see it as an impact, why should other states? There may appear to be more than 15,000 in HI , but those registrations are from the DMV.. and Hawaii has only about 500,000 registered vehicles in total, so it will seem to be more..Phoenix has over 2 million registered vehicles for a comparison....

I see I should have said salted roads and not winter... Arizona has snow outside the valley as well...
