Hey Dan,
I bet you have a 1 wire alternator system with a MSD ignition. Just the MSD will do it and they call it run on. A diode ($0.80) placed on the wire to the alt. will stop this problem and it is all explained on MSD web link. Call me if you have trouble finding it. Jeff C
