Ground Control to Major Pink.....

Danr55 02-19-2009 05:42 PM

I should be putting my heads back on that weekend.. with any luck..

Karl Bebout 02-19-2009 09:12 PM

Nyet. Had a little mishap this afternoon with the Cobra and did a little landscaping work. I was getting on the 202 off Gilbert Rd and lost it when I hit 2nd gear. Must have been some dust or gravel or maybe I wasn't entirely going straight when I shifted gears. Anyway, I took out some bushes and trees, broke at least one front fender, both rear fenders, ripped the trunk lid off, broke off the front valence below the radiator, broke the windwhield and I think the frames are bent, and I don't know what all else. Received a good driver citation for "failure to control". Didn't get hurt much. Lots of scratches on my head and face, and large lump on my left thigh from the roll bar, undoubtedly feel more tomorrow. Lucky it wasn't worse. Glad I've got the Monza to play with.

Danr55 02-19-2009 09:17 PM

Glad you weren't hurt any worse than you were, Karl. It sounds pretty much like it's totaled to me..

SandyC 02-19-2009 10:20 PM

Dang Karl, that's sad. Glad you weren't seriously hurt. Whew! Bummer about the car. And what's with the citation, as if the damage to you and your car wasn't enough, those incompassionate dolts.

RedSnake351 02-19-2009 10:31 PM

Ain't that a kick in the a$$! Sorry to hear about the "mishap" Karl, glad you didn't get more hurt than you did. Cobras can be fixed, I know from personal experience a few years back.

"He blew his mind out in a car."
Karl,
sorry to hear that about your nice machine. Do you still have your old neck brace?

Mike Brasfield 02-20-2009 05:37 AM

Karl....that's awful. Where's the car. I saw you and Dan yesterday from the bus window. I honked at Dan as he was pulling in the Chevron on Ellsworth. I saw you just coming onto Brown from your house but I don't think you heard me. Glad you OK....really sad about the Cobra. Bummer.

Maricopa 02-20-2009 08:41 AM

Look at the bright side, now you can finally get a Ford motor!

Glad you're OK amigo.

mikiec 02-20-2009 09:36 AM

Karl, That sucks. Glad you are OK.

I agree with Dan.. Sounds totaled, especially if the frame is bent. Time for a new one.

CSX4910 (Ron) has an awsome SPF for sale. Big motor, paddle shifters etc..

Mike

AZ Pete 02-20-2009 10:00 AM

Karl, I'm glad to see that you're okay but I'm shaken that your very cool car is bashed up.
Pete

Wow Karl, what a drag-a-roono. You should be able to get a body from Factory Five at a good price. I know that Superformance sells complete bodies for not that much money and they are pre painted. I doubt the car is totalled when the windshield frame is bent like others have postulated.. :o

I am kind of surprised that it would do that, your car was kind of underpowered.... %/

If you need a hand at getting the body off the thing, I will be glad to help. I am good at wrecking stuff. Really, though, I am sure everyone will pitch in and help you get that thing apart so that you can fix it. Call me any time and I will come over.

Steve - the guy who totally understands your Chevy motor.. Just don't leave it in there too long or the car will morph into this:

Danr55 02-20-2009 01:37 PM

Mulv, That's a pretty chevette.. I always liked white.

Karl Bebout 02-20-2009 03:14 PM

Thanks for all the kind thoughts. Had the car almost 12 years and this is the first time its gotten away from me enough to cause damage. Got it home from the tow yard this afternoon and was able to put it up in the air to take a hard look at the damage. No idea if its totaled or not. I guess I'll be finding out how good my American Hobbyist insurance is. They are to send an estimator out next week to take a look. I'm thinking I'll also get another estimate. What was the name of the shop that fixed DaveS's and Jeff's cars? I know that both came out beautifully. I'll e-mail Mikiec some pictures to post since I'm technically retarded.

Thanks Jeff. I'll go to Scotts for a second estimate, unless my insurance guy wants to total it. I have no idea what he'll think.
