My Jag-you-are Calipers are Toast!
I've had it with my XJ6 rear brakes. They have quit working again after a few thousand miles on the new pads. It looks like I'll be off to the junkyard for some replacements unless one of you fine folks have a pair laying around?

Junkyard!
No rears, have some fronts. You can rebuild those things you know! They are also available already rebuilt. Mine I got from NAPA.

Call Michael at Concours West Industries in WA state and discuss your problem. He put big Jag brakes on my Contemporary Jag irs with vented rotors and carbon fiber pads--no problems, ever, including track use. He's a great guy, very helpful.

NAPA,,,,like Sears,,,,,gotta have 'em around the corner! I bought my front springs for the Excalibur at NAPA. Well,,,,,they were actually springs for a Mustang II that required some mods, but it was STILL at NAPA, lol.

NAPA
I did a search at NAPA online and found calipers and rebuild kits for Jag. There are also a number of companies rebuilding, some times with stainless pistons as well as a few companies offering performance brake upgrades.

Just a quick note - it is my understanding that you should never split the calipers themselves apart during a rebuild, certainly that's what Jagwaar say in their manuals, although I am still not quite sure why.
Any comments???

I was always under the impression that they thought we wouldn't do it correctly. If some one knows the exact reason I would be interested as well.
It would probably cost the same amount to convert the stock calipers to Wilwood. I have seen vented rotor Wilwood kits for under $700 for the rear with the calipers only costing about $80 each.

Hi Wilf,
Never understood British shop manuals anyway
My Jag rear calipers were split to engulf 1/4" spacers so they'd encompass the vented rotors from CWI.
Seem to work fine
Regards,
Tom

Crack them open!
Wilwood does the same thing as does many other manufacturers. Take the same caliper and put in various thickness spacers so the caliper will fit different thickness rotors. This has been done for such a long, long time.
I think Jaguar just thinks we are incompetent!
