Tomcat,
Have a good look on youtube there are a pile of Hitler parodies to the same clip, there is one about the Ford ad and one about the Vuvuzelas and the 2010 worldcup, p155 funny. :LOL:Lionel. |
Lionel that's an absolute ripper !!
Haven't laughed so much in ages Rog |
Chevy in an AC Cobra; you have got to be kidding me. Call up Shelby America and see what they say.
|
|
Al - that's got my attention, especially the pre-blower bits and pieces. Who owns this? It looks like the Whipple billet mono-blade throttle body, which has received a really mixed response.
Proximity of filter to throttle blade... Internal shape of the upper plenum... I'd love to hear more about this! |
Hexnut72 said it all! I am building an AC Cobra with a Lexus v8 in it! There are many reasons I chose this engine; they are easy to get here in New Zealand, are cheap ($1000.00 (NZ) delivered to my door with trans and computer), have good power for the dollars you pay (about 300hp stock with tube headers as opposed to a 289 stock 225hp) even more than a hipo with 271hp. They are much lighter than a Ford small block being all alloy. Plus they are 6 bolt mains, 32 valve, efi and will take forced induction without touching the internals, (they sound awesome too with sidepipes!). A good alround reliable engine that (should) go forever. If I was building a genuine 289 or 427 Cobra I would not be using anything but 289 or 427 Ford. Most of these cars are kit or aftermarket so you can really put what you want in them. Even if you use Ford (302,351,390,428 etc) you are straying away from what is true, so use what you want. If it is a replica it is always going to be a replica! If you want the real deal go buy one. Unfortunately I can't afford over $1m.

There is an all electric cobra being built here in Perth, stay tuned.
Welcome Lexcob, the numbers are growing. |
How many car batteries can you fit in a Cobra???? What will the pit Guys say??.....I guess a novel way to get past emissions then drop in a big block??
|
The ICV checklist would just be a NA on the emissions section and see attached electric motor drive NCOP 14.
Without a fuel tank and and plenty of room up the front (electric motor is fairly small) I believe enough for about a 300km trip. Electric motor power has the advantage of full torque available all the way through the rpm range. http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roa...e_3Feb2006.pdf All ICV rules still apply. There are several electric cars buzzing around Perth, even a converted Mustang. I think I would want to fit a big arse stereo and play a V8 soundtrack though. Whatever floats your boat. |
My Cobra is Hybrid, it burns fuel & rubber! :D

I have to question the original premise that the Shelby AC Cobra is indeed a ford legend.
No doubt the Shelby AC Cobra is indeed a great legend, but I might suggest that to call it a ford legend is not entirely accurate. It is more a legend, that was back then, powered by a ford engine. Today of course, the best legendary engine to power the best legendary car is the Chevy LS series. :) Well that's what I want to put in mine when I build it anyways ..... |
Can't easily dismiss Ford based on that premise, without their dollars and support it would have been something else, if indeed it ever came to be at all.
|
The car was marketed in the UK as the AC Cobra and in the US as a Ford Cobra and Shelby Cobra. The world championship won was a Ford Cobra, I understand. Also, the cars were initially sold in the US through Ford dealerships. However that said, current Australian emission and compliance rules mean that the easiest new motor to fit is the Holden one. I agonised over that choice for a long time (earlier thread) and the heart won over the head, I'm afraid. What ever makes you happy!

Tis better to have a Cobra with a GM motor than no Cobra at all. :)
...but it's still a Ford. |
The Chevrolet that we fought against, and beat down in racing for over 45 years, disappeared in 2009 with the bankruptcy and bailout, they are no longer *that* company. ( BTW: Ford won )
Inspired From Wikipedia = The General Motors Company, also known as GM, On June 1, 2009 filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. This was completed on July 10 2009. IN that proceeding, it was reorganized into a new entity which acquired the most valuable assets from the extinguished GM. GM is now temporarily majority owned by the United States Treasury and, to a smaller extent, the Canada Development Investment Corporation[5] and the government of Ontario, with the U.S. government investing a total of US$57.6 billion under the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) So I would say that Ford Vs. Chevy thing is sooo 20th century. -- I do like these new LS series motors that they are coming out with , they really look like a modern Windsor in their bolt patern etc -- I look at them as american built engines. ( and - or - Canadian ) in the case of the EROD LS3. The LS7 and the LS9 are made in Wixom Michigan, by hard working Americans. -- hell even AMG came over for a visit as they were impressed with the building of the new LS7/LS9. so in the end -Windsor, Ontario -- Whats the difference >? Looking forward to an LS7 in one of my cars at some point. Steve |
Yeah, well they STILL look funny, with all them ignition coils covering the valve covers and such. Do try to clean that stuff up a little, make it look a bit more "old school" if you would.
I'd dump the injection all together and go with a double pumper!!! :) Which won't pass smog, but, I'm in Oregon, USA, so it's not an issue here. |

I reckon Aussie Mikes engine bay looks fairly old school, or a setup with hidden coil packs and a different injection setup. Here is a mates buggy motor. http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...d/IMG_0039.jpg http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...d/IMG_0040.jpg http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...d/IMG_0041.jpg Makes a jelly fish go hard :) |
I would be too busy driving the car to look at the motor
