Default Ford EECs

For those of you with Ford Mustang or similar variants of the 302 and who contemplate using a MassFlow EFI system be careful about planning the EEC/ECU that you use.

I have a Mustang 5.0L which came with an A9P EEC. Now this is a fine EEC, but it was designed for an automatic vehicle and harness. The A9L is generally regarded as one of the best things that Ford ever made and is designed to be used on a manual car and manual harness, where as the A9P can be used with some care on a manual or auto. I gather that there are some differences in the acceleration 'curve' in the A9P.

However, IF you go the MassFlow route be warned the A9P will not work properly with their chip and set up. Acceleration is not smooth and the idle hangs. They assume you have the A9L EEC. Two solutions: buy their EEC or buy an A9L on eBay and put it away for later. They are becoming quite valuable and hard to find good ones! A9Ps are more easily found.

I just offer this info for those of you with similar setups and similar ambitions. Peter H and I have spent a lot of time 'tuning/ the A9P to find that it just will not work with the MassFlow software properly.

Ahhh Merv, i feel the frustration in the post

Thanks for the tip, fortunately mine's an A9L.

I'm having dramas as well, the car started and ran fine........for a while. Now will turn over but no spark, so I think it's the coil or brand new TFI module (bought a new distibutor with TFI over a year ago)
I've ran a resistance test from here, http://www.therangerstation.com/tech...iagnostic.html and there's a few continuity problems. I can find the original invoice for the part so I'm looking for a newy from the US.

I might run it by Peter, I've lost his number, would you mind PMing it to me, thanks.

Meanwhile, the good news is the car is at the trimmers at last, hopefully he'll have it a few weeks and then it's off to Ray for engineering.

That's y so many go the ls1 route
Many many tuning possibilities
No one really bothers with ford ecus
We want to get the factory ford flash module
By y bother
I recon it be better to fit an ls1 reflector
To a ford motor them wire up ls1 ecu to a ford motor
Then tune it properly
Best thing u can do to a ford
A delco and Delphi ecu will **** many things out there

Byron,

Jeggs.com has TFIs. I am using the MassFloEfi system on my car as well but went with an SCT tuning chip. I feel that it is much better to tune the car on the dyno other than have MassFlo "tune" your computer then ship it to you...Mac

The A9L is terrific EEC. Robust and adaptable. The A9P is also great, but not for Mass Flow EFI chips.

So, I ordered a "re-manufactured" A9L from MassFlow EFI in the US.

It was Airmail Express posted on August 2nd to the Sunshine Coast, QLD. USPS sent it straight to Canada where they just couldn't find the Sunshine Coast!

After 2 weeks I suspected that something had happened and MassFlow got it back to their place in Massachusetts and re addressed it, and off it went to Canada again!

Third time lucky it is now winging its way to Australia. Should be a month in all. So much for USPS.

Is anyone interested in a complete Mustang EEC kit, by the way of ECu, Wiring harness and all sensors? My engine runs fine and has no missfires, hesitiations or running problems, I just don't like the look of it.

I am about to strip Mustand Injection off my Cobra and thought someone may a have a use for it. Might come in handy for those running this system as parts?
I am going Wolf V4 with 4 barrel Edlebrock EFi manifold.

That is being a little short sighted. There are also many option for tuning the Ford EEC. you can use a TwEECer or Moates Quarter horse to tune just to mention a couple. You don't have to use their(massflo) chip. You can also load the tune from their chip into either of these tuners. Once you have it loaded you can infinately fine tune your engine to squeeze max power out of it.

On the front Dave above the multipin socket - will have a sticker with "A9L" or other on it in big letters.

Not now Dave. IT seems I have 2 of those and also an A9P. They are become quite costly now. Check on eBay.
