Jethrow it kind of depends on the balance of the power with chassis and the car's handling and grip. The original Cobras would not have had that much power I suspect. The overall package is the real achievement and if it does the job that you want.

It's probably more of a case of how you get the power down than how much...

250-300 will be plenty to go plenty quick enough on the street! I had 310 in a VX Commodore, that power in a car weighing 600kg less would be enough to scare you just the right amount!

Hi guys.

Just to revive this thread a bit, I would like to hear from anyone who has bought a crate engine in from the USA recently. I am looking at the new GMPP LS3 E-Rod engine, and it seems to be an ideal emissions compliant way to go.

Has anyone bought from the Crate Depot, or similar? And who did you use for freight?

Thanks

Thanks Rebel - Holmart is certainly an option, but then again, this does look good ....

They sure are good value Jethrow.
I'd check with my engineer if he will accept that crate engine package.
He should do but some engineers are funny about imported crate engines.

I guess the main attraction with the Holmart offering is the engine is from an Oz vehicle and the engine number recorded at GMH. No arguments then.

Maybe if you contacted Holmart with a complete package. ie. Accessory brackets, starter, alt, flywheel, ECU etc. they might do you a deal.

Hi Jethrow,
My engine came from Crate Engine Depot. Good guys to deal with, make em a reasonable offer, or get them to throw in accessory drive kit, they are willing to deal.

I paid about $650US for shipping, came sea freight, got it in 6 weeks, i organized freight through Yusen Air, they picked up, containerized LCL and sea freight shipment went via Japan,
Arrived Sydney, roaded to Melbourne, clearance cost me about $40 or $50 from memory, about that anyway, no duty, paid GST on invoiced declared value excluding freight, as i paid freight costs here. Paid duties by credit card on phone, customs clearanced next day, picked up from Yusen depot, pretty easy, very well packed, no damage, all timber packaging was import compliance.

Regards

Dave

Capa on ebay at the moment have some for sale as well for $6995

There seem to be quite a few Harrisons with the old Boss motor running around happily. A modern motor would be nice. And the watch is a bonus.

Mine was built in the US of A. Internals nothing but the best. Left nothing in reserve......

Then they proceeded to sit outside under a big blue tarp, knock back a 6 pack of budweener and put it all together.....! LOL
