Thanks Dave. So far, I like both the types I have posted in pics above. Steel it is. How fake, the fake pipes on most Cobras, look is a moot point I guess.

Paul - my mighty Ford is almost half alloy anyway now . The use of fake side pipes is enough at this stage.

Ha ha Merv, I'm sure I read somewhere that you prefered the no pipe look :-0
now you're becoming a show off........

My car's got the Factory Five pipes fitted up now, I bought mild steel then primed and painted them matt black. I'd reccon that they'd be cheaper than having them made here. They're not that heavy, maybe 10 kg each?

I'll get a pic or 2 posted here after pushing the car out of the shed....now that i've driven it a bit i'm fixing a few annoying issues including moving the pedals further back so the pedal box is out ATM

Default FF Sidepipes

Byron Cobra,
Have you started the engine with the FF side-pipes on yet ? I'm curious about how loud they are....all the you-tube shots sound pretty mild.

No Rob, they're only for show........all the advice I've had is they'll drive you crazy.

I had loud pipes on a Harley for a while, but took them off 'cause on longer distances they did my head in.......not to mention your mates in close formation.

I also worry about someone burning themselves on them and having them covered in shields detracts from them IMHO.

I thought that was always a Coke bottle - often called in the US, the 'Trocadero decoy'?

No - here in Oz we have restrictions on live pipes these days in most states.

That is a good price Greg. I might finish up there too.

Reminds me of when I went to the beach. My mate said to whack a couple of spuds down my speedos. Wasn't till hours later he came up and said "Gaz, mate, I meant down the front"
Apologies to Strop and Hoges.

When the gods are good to me I plan on getting pipes from the US, paint them up and stickem on. No issues with wanka coppers or RTA equivalents who are only upholding the written law and no snakebite. I'd hate to deliver someone to a school formal/ prom and see the dress melt all over live pipes.
I'd curse the kid forever.

They do look good, can I ask, is your car a 90 inch or 94?

They do look very good Greg. I have an order ready if the one I am checking on from Harrissons does not match up. They would the same as Mick's - above. My body is extended by 100mm and they could be made to suit. Warwick has the pattern.

good looks - it could be just the photo angle, but they look like they may be a little short?

What is the diameter of the main pipe Greg? 100? Also I guess that they have muffling material in them, whereas the Harrison's one would not. 48lbs is not heavy. Any pics of the attachment plate on the chassis inside?

Merv
The pipes are 100mm in diameter.
The fixing was a challenge......I'm too embarrassed to take a pic of the temporary bush mechanic method that I employed, only to say it involved a hose clamp and fencing wire Fortunately it is out of sight down there and only I know
It's solid as a rock though!
To do it neatly needs welding and fabrication, a job for later on with my mates mig.

Boxy
Sorry, I'm not sure what you're referring to, I guess it's body length, I measure 57" along the door sill between the guards.

Modena
Yeah about 4" short of the end of the sill.....no big deal for me. I wonder if the factory five cars that the pipes are off are shorter.

JBCOBRA
There was probably no point in trimming in leather, adding an offside mirror, having all those gauges, running 'hallibrand' wheels, etc etc etc in fact my wife can't see any point in the whole bluddy car.....

Good answer all round Greg. Others may have some pics of the fixing plate (or similar) for the pipes. I am sure many would be interested.

Merv,

Mine were made through Warwick and am very happy with them. It would be a benefit if you specify what length you would like them to be be as I thought mine were a tad short (my chassis is also 100mm longer) but I don't notice it anymore. The attachment plate is a short length of wide aluminium angle - the front two tubes accept a threaded bolt and the bracket is attached with bolts into the front wheel arch. I have attached the example photos from Warwick but the brackets came with a better finish than shown. The use of spacers allow you to position the pipes where you want them. I allowed a bit of room between the side of the body and the pipes so that small stones can fall through but some of the larger ones get caught.
