I grew up in Queanbeyan and couldn't get out of there fast enough when I came of age. Go west young man I did. BTW, AC isn't on here but windows and doors are all opened, shorts is almost a bit overdressed. |
It was a pretty good day today at the track, not too cold (for long periods atleast).
Rain held off for the best part, and most Cobras stayed on the track. Having a ball and looking forward to tomorrows action. |
To all my Cobra friends, it was great seeing most of you today, sorry to those I never got around to saying hi to! Kids got in the way!!!!
Hope you all have a great run tomorrow, be careful and enjoy the day! Stef |

How many attending??
What are the numbers for the weekend??....Surely all the cars in the line up for the photo shoot aren't it!!???
Damn it looks a tad cool!!! |
Not sure what the final count was, probably about 45 to 55, well short of the 80 or so booked in. I think the weather forecast probably put quite a few off. It was ok till about 10am Saturday (when I left), Friday was freezing.
|
Just looking at the grid I thought I'd counted about 45 while there; maybe these pics were taken before everyone turned up?
Oh here comes another one proving just what a fast little peddler he is. http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/pict...d=6432&thumb=1 |
I had 80 entrants come through go-whoa. There were 84 entries, and I think it was only the broken cars and one double entrant that didn't run on saturday
|
It was cold alright
I flew to Canberra late Friday intending to visit Wakefield Sat and Sunday. I'd have been taking my new car down for it's virgin track outing, only a trip to Korea looms tomorrow so just no time to get back from Goulburn.
I awoke to pouring rain and 1 degree in Canbrrrrrra Saturday morning with a delemma, off to the track to get wet and cold or lunch at a winery with some old mates........some say I'm crazy, but I took the later. Sunday morning was actually sunny (still 1 degree) so of a mate and I set for the track in his ball tearing HX Monaro. What a sight, Cobbies everywhere and that unmistakeable roar of a V8 in full song........tingly all over I was. We spent the day watching all the drivers having a hoot, great rivalry from weekend crisers to VERY serious competitors with big budgets and horsepower to match. Scotty in his Venom JPS beast and John White in the RCR GT40 were the guys to beat. What was Yves doing out there embarrasing Cobras in a dunnydoor ute for godsake? The Monaro even had a trackblat when a shower sent the Cobbies off and us tintops were allowed out to help dry the track out. Anyway, it was great to meet you forum guys in the flesh, everyone friendly and keen to chat about their cars. BTW my 3 boxes of trickflow bits arrived last week, so when me and the windsor guru in the gold car can get organised we'll get my baby cooking....ready for Nationals 2012! Greg |
Good to meet you Greg, and a great weekend was had by most. Weather wasnt perfect, but still probably the least disrupted event of the last 4 years with little time lost. Lots of PB's including nearly doubling my number of spin offs from previous year. Some very very quick times including a couple of 1:04's. A few pics:

Andrew, Why do you have a microwave oven in your boot? Did you knock it off from the Motel? or was it one of the Trophies?
|
They didnt hand out trophies for most time spent in the dirt, so I missed out this year. It was one of the raffle prizes.
|
Cheers for the pics and link to times.
I did not see my times in run 3 and thought I had gone slower so I did not chase it up for a look. But I can see I picked up about .3 of a second. Thanks to the NSW club for a well run event, Had a ball and loved the Lumley Lap, only 1 go to get it right really does put pressure on. Already planning for holidays next year. Does anyone have a number for the photographer, I kept missing him all weekend. My Cobra is now safely locked away in Aussie Mikes shed. |

How did the Thermo Fans go? Did they make any difference to your engine temps? Baz |
Hi there Baz, on Saturday I ran with them turned off, Never got any hotter than normal, Sunday I ran with them on, and engine was about 20 F cooler.
I did not really need them for extra cooling, but was happy to see they did not make it run hotter (I did not have them wired up on Saturday), Sunday morning I rewired the spotlight relay to run the fans |
Just like to say thanks to the NSW Club for organising and running another fantastic year at the Nationals. Us VIC's had a great time on and off the track. Looking forward to improving on our times for 2012.
Hope to see all you interstaters at Shelby Fest 2012. Cheers Tony |
