Until an LS engined cobra takes fastest lap @ the nationals then the windsors have the bragging rights... Gary Walthers 1:03 was pretty quick.. Ok so it's a 6 litre dart blocked V8 supercar engine but it's still ford based ....
On the other side I use a VE SS sportwagon to tow so I'm also an LS engine fan... |
There is no doubt that windsor engines can produce some awesome power, but for big bucks.
Very few engines could match a LS engine power for dollar. (OK Scotty quad cams too) The fact that Waz and Mizzi have both bought LS engines is testament to that! |

Since when does power equal fast laps.......! Tomcat, I bet a stock LS3 with a cam would make similar power to your engine, and be under $10K. Ugly engines - yes. Bang for buck - awesome. HSV300. Very sweet motor! |

That is one of the things about the way the Original Cobra image has developed - motors like that are as attractive as the cars themselves.

Had some time today (its the weekend) to do a little more work on the engine.
With the damage to the top of the No.2 piston, I decided to remove the piston and check (a) for damage to the sides of the piston (b) damage to the big end - bearing or journal. Thankfully, the damage appears to be confined to the top of the piston and the mating surface of the head (as in the photos above). Here is the side of the piston: http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...medium/No2.jpg There was also no visible damage to the bearing or the crankshaft journal for the No.2 big end. With all this in mind, I am happy to agree with the two earlier conclusions (thanks boxhead and blykins), something has made its way into the combustion chamber and caused the imprints on the piston and head before being exhausted. So with one piston out, it was little effort to remove the others and the crankshaft. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d.../bottomEnd.jpg With all this apart, I measured the crankshaft bearing journals (connecting rod and main), the pistons and the bores and I am very pleased with the results. All were well within specifications for both size and taper. Before removing the pistons and crankshaft, I also checked the big end bearing play and the crankshaft end play - again, both well within spec. All corresponding measurements were within tenths of thou of each other. Next, I will be taking the block to be honed and will be replacing the bearings and the rings before it all starts putting itself back together. Cheers Geof |

Not sure about tough. I don't know if this engine has ever seen much service at all. There is a complete lack of wear all over the engine - pistons, bores, crank. One of the main bearings shows some minor signs of wear but that is it (apart from the damage to No.2 - which is effectively cosmetic). Even the bores had very little lip on the top of the cylinder. I wiped off the carbon deposits and dropped the pistons - easy. No need to machine or scrape the lip off. I'v only ever rebuilt a couple of engines but this is the best I've seen. So, yes, they are either tough or this one has done very little work ... or maybe a bit of both. Geof |

I have the 4.6 litre Supercharged SVT motor in my cobra the Coyote is the same size so i'm sure they will fit into the Harrison Cobras.
