Come on Tomcat, bring your car down for the Nationals, your closer than I am.

P.s, I will add that I do not intend to do any spanking as my problem is no doubt driver skill, as my car makes more than enough power to turn a decent time.

Nah all good Puss cat, takes more than that to get me going.
Why don't you come down for the Nat's?
I am sure that QLD would love a 'sure thing' to win at the drags?

no lets talk about how many of those piston slapping, oil burning, ls engines that holden had to rebuild from virtually new, and tried to cover up, hundreds at least if not more than a thousand, the mackay holden dealers workshop was full of them. and the holden captiva, the most recalled car in australian motoring history, if not the world, quality there son, go better, in yer dreams

Gav 07-17-2011 09:38 PM

I think the bulls@@t just stopped.

Not up for a trip south Puss Cat?

This engine rebuilding thread sure took a left turn once I admitted I had split a windsor, and MIGHT be going L98.

Very funny .

Poor bloody Geof....keep trying Geof...I'm reading the stuff about your car...it's just got a bit of humour thrown in for good measure.

As far as the Ford engine , or at least a stroker , goes...

I have FINALLY learned the hard way, that if you're going to stroke a 302 windsor to a 347, then you MUST use either a Dart or Sportsman block....

The sideways stresses of the bigger swing of a 347 crank just doesn't play well with a standard block.

This is the second block I've split in two, and both times the lovely internals have escaped any injury....but what a pain in the backside to start again with another block.

Now, I've hijacked this thread....sorry about that....

Back to Geof's build.

Cheers,
Warren.

Tomcat,

What sort of times have you been doing?

Some comparisons here:-

Quickest LSx's @ Palmyra?

Great idea - I will check this out.

EDIT: What would you expect for a good/bad result for the gap - top and bottom?

Thanks

Geof

The bore will always wear the worst right at the top of the stroke where the piston gives a slight rock before it goes back down...when you hone an engine you usually keep honing until youve honed these wear marks out....
By doing this you take more meat out of the top of the bore than the bottom....so when you put your new ring in the bottom of the bore the ring gap will look OK but when you bring it to the top the gap will have probably doubled this cause poor compression and wears the piston ring shoulders because the ring is continuously opening and closing... the oil rings will wear first causing oil usage.....

Apples with apples.... an unopened fuel injected 5.0 windsor will run forever.... just possibly like a post VT LS engine.... And just like the LS coming along in 1998 and being a superior standard engine to modify, the Coyote has now graced us with her presence and looks set to take over the title.....

kindling provided.....

Oh forgot to add....

Engine failure was caused by a 16 year old flawed head design. I knew they were suspect but i ran the risk and paid the price because I was too tight to spend the money on new heads when i built my engine...... Aaahhhhhh the painful lessons we learn....

Beejay 07-18-2011 05:36 PM

Those Coyotes are awesome, I just want to see one running in a Cobra before we all get too excited.

I was browsing Just Cars mag last night.
Tell me Ford lovers, why is it Ok for the majority of Ford rods to be fitted with a Chev, yet you guys get all excited about using LS engines in a kit car?:D

Ben

Philm 07-18-2011 06:28 PM

cheap wine Ben.

The chevy small block has always had good support from the aftermarket producers compared to the ford Windsor. Cost would have had a lot to do with it.

I am sure every Hotrodder would prefer to fit a Flathead, Hemi or a Y block ford over any SBF or SBC, but a simple cheap option is the 350 chev, TH 350 and a 10 bolt diff. These rods are pretty ho hum in my book.

Before the Billet age, a Windsor alternator bracket was impossible to get however for SBC there were 5 different options.

So like everything these days it comes down to cost.

I always chuckle with the "Bang for Buck" and "dollar per HP" comments surely the descision to build or own a cobra is a bad financial decision in the first place!!!

Love your passion Tomcat, you have to support a team if you want to play.

Phil

Beejay 07-18-2011 08:25 PM

Phil,

Point taken. The aftermarket generally supports the winners.

How many Ford manufactured parts are in your engine again....?:MECOOL:

Lol,

Ben

There was one but it broke.
