OZWheels no longer making Halibrand Replica Wheels

What a "Piss Off"
After being on their books since Feb waiting for them to get started, following up gently each month, and being told shortly, be patient, then last few weeks i suspected things wern't well, when i couldnt get hold of Peter anymore, just kept being told he is "busy, call next Monday", Well i collored him yesterday, and after being told the usual and then pressuring for a date, he finally told me hes too busy, theres not enough money in it, he's considering business offers, he's not making any more.

I havent preasured this guy at all, and was prepared to fit in with hes time line and he just bull****ted me for months. well F#&% EM,

I cant recommend them for anything, and i suggest you look else where if your getting the run around as well.

No wonder we go overseas, what a total waste of my time, this crap is becoming so typical of Aussie businesses.

Dave if you want Aussie ones where you can talk to the maker about backspace etc., Dragway is still fine on my experience. US ones are cheaper but you need to be careful

Thanks Merv, just looked up their website, and they are relatively local to me, less than an hour away in Kinglake, thanks for that looks like they do a HB replica DB51 worth discussing further with them.

Dave, I have to agree with you.

Early this year I sent wheels to them for some alterations and machining. Asside from it taking sooo long with poor communication (I wont go into the details). The machining work was a little (very) poor and two wheels were out of balance. This has all been corrected now by a local wheel repairer/machinist however I would not recomend ozwheel based on the work that I received.

Not a nice thing to say but now I know I was not fussy with my dealing.

Dave I found that Dragway asked the right questions and double checked measurements with me for a perfect fit. I did not go for their Halibrand type but instead a similar one, DB 131 (Classic Wheels ) that seemed easier to clean and polish.

We all vary on that ...

They have a good offset chart on their 'site.

I wasn't that keen on the DB51 Billet Halibrand style but the new Cobra 10 spoke looks pretty good.

Poor communication and damned expensive when you see some of his work, the local performance parts guy steered me away from oz when he showed me some wheels he had made for a Falcon which wouldn't fit over the brake calipers.
How can you get ford wheels wrong?

Yes Mike the Hallibrand version was in rough or polished and would need coating to avoid hours of polishing. I liked their 10 spoke wheels. I had an unfortunate experience with fitting US sourced wheels.

Dave - I was looking at Dragway for wheels however the main sticking point is the price. I could not make a case to buy from them when I can get the same thing from the US at a MUCH cheaper price plus I am dealing through their agent here in Thomastown.

Suggest you ring their Australian agent and talk to Paul. that way you at least you have options.

Just go to Vintage wheels,cheaper and better !!!

dave, you are obviously "the other guy" that oz told me was getting cobra wheels done......i have also been given the run around for a couple of months, they told me they are too busy with repairs and making one off wheels is just not profitable enough. ive now also written them off.

the problem with US suppliers, for a classic revival, is the front backspace requirements. I spoke with three different well known halibrand replica manufacturers and none could cater for the front spacing required.

I had the same problem with the Harrison and US suppliers, hence my Dragway choice.

I did notice in the Club Cobra mag a guy in Croydon - Millaz wheels - dont know anything about him.

Dragway sounds like a good option - just remember the PCD for the Vz/VE is every so slightly different to the standard US GM

If anyone has OZ Wheels in the 3 pieces Halibrand style 17 inch and they have the Ford centre pattern, I have a pair of Jag stud patternn centres that I would be looking to swap early next year.

I have bought some 15's but wont be fitted till late this year and I want to fit the 17's to my Valiant Charger.
Valiant is same stud pattern as Ford, I currently have 2 Ford on rear and 2 Jag on front, I was going to fit Holden stud pattern 9 inch in rear of Charger, but if anyone has Ford centres and need Jag centres insted we can swap.

Mine are Millaz wheels. Great wheels, fantastic service - very helpful. Just don't be in a hurry to get them made.

I have seen a brochure for Millaz, fair to say I suspect the brochure does perhaps not do them justice - it was enough to put me off calling them.

I spoke to Bob at Vintage in the US a couple of months ago, and he said outright that he couldn't do the front spacing required. Also all suppliers I spoke to in the US have a maximum of 17" centre casting, so for an 18" wheel they use a stepped rim - not the best of ideas.

Dragway may now be an option for me, the wheels I have seen in the past from them have not impressed me, but that Cobra 10 Spoke looks ok in the pics.

aesthetics would be my main concern, although the structural strength of it might come into question too? Just guessing without thinking about it to much...

Hi Dave

sorry to hear you have been stuffed around by OZ wheels. I also found it difficult to get the correct offset from the US suppliers as well which led me back to aussie suppliers. I managed to get by luck( or not) by the sound of it a set of OZ wheels and I ordered in January and received delivery in April. When the tyres were fitted to the new rims I had the rears out of round and needed to return them to be reworked. The problem was resolved without any issues to there credit but it got me worried when you have wheels which are new and are not round and unsafe as the tyre outlet claimed!

I had spoken to Milaz but he told me dont buy a car with that type of offset and that the rims would look like crap go and by a different kit ,so he was not excited about making them. With that he added $1000 to the regular price he would charge for a similar rim but a more standard offset, at this point he was never going to get my business. I dont think this should bother you if are prepared for his attitude or I just happened to speak to him when he was having a ****ty day ?
