Rotary Wiper Switches

Where can you buy rotary wiper switches, similar to the OEM ones I believe, (below) for Lucas two-speed wiper system. I have looked through the usual sources at AES, Europa and Finishline and didn't see these.

WIPER SWITCHES UNIVERSAL 2 speed and washer funtion | eBay

Merv and Sharon 08-20-2011 01:42 AM

Thanks Liam but I wanted the ones that look a bit more OEM, without the washer function.

Maurice Butler 08-20-2011 03:33 AM

try xm xp falcon, the American cobras went that way after getting sick of lucas stuff

Merv and Sharon 08-20-2011 04:29 AM

Most of the ones here were white. Wonder where they got the ones in the photo above?

Mando 08-20-2011 05:11 AM

Hi Merv, try Tony Branda in Altoona Pennsylvania or Cobra Restorers in Kennesaw Georgia.
Good luck.

Regards.

Thanks Mando. They have this at Cobra Restorers: Cobra Restorers

I guess it is for a Lucas 2 speed but the knob to match does not show as available. SPF seem to have one however, if it fits. I thought this would be easier on the replica market!

Merv and Sharon 08-20-2011 05:30 AM

Thanks Rog - checked them earlier. Lots of good stuff but ...

wiper switch

If you check the parts for sale on this site I have one for sale with the correct knob, I think it is cheaper than cobra restorers. Good luck.:)

Cole-Hersee has a good selection of wiper switches with or without washer function. You may have to buy one of their retro switch knobs but you should be able to get what you need. a supplier will be the biggest hurdle i would imagine. their catalog is available online in PDF format

Thank you all gentlemen. I also had an email from Roger and it lays out interesting options. It seems that any original style rotary switch will not work with the two-speed motors we now have (2 speed plus 'park' function). He suggests:

1. Get the OEM 2 speed square motor and goofy wiring harness and pay through the nose for an OEM switch and knob.

2. Use the later motor with toggle switch, cheap, easy, works great (I HAVE THIS NOW)

3. Use the later motor (I HAVE) with 2 speed switch and add a relay circuit to simulate what would have been - add the OEM plastic knob.

So I may be getting a modern two-speed, OFF/ON/ON rotary switch and buying an old style button!

FWB 08-20-2011 03:33 PM

cole-hersee has both types of switches designed for systems with or without integral motor park.

Switches designed to work with dynamic park motors: the PARK wire is blue.
Typical switches:
75600-01 12V DC, controls two motors,
75602-02 24V DC, controls two motors,
75600-02 12V DC, controls one motor, Packard 6-way,
75600-05 12V DC, controls one motor, Packard 4-way,
75600-07 12V DC, controls one motor.

7-way connector Switches designed to work with non-dynamic park (or coast-to-park) motors: the PARK wire is green.
Typical switches:
75601-02, 12V DC, controls two motors, Packard 8-way,
75601-08, same as 75601-02 without knob

Electronic switches have 7 leads ( 2 red leads). Microprocessor based Windshield Wiper Switches can work with both types of motors. They have 6 leads.
Typical switches:
75600 12V DC, with 8-way Packard connector.
75600-04 12V DC, with 6 wire leads
75602-04 24V DC, with 6 wire leads.

75221-06 is no washer switch, for dynamic park motor.

Thanks! This could be the one. Will check it out against the toggle switch terminals.

FWB 08-20-2011 06:12 PM

the motor should be 3 or 4 wire depending on if it grounds to case or a wire for ground. 1 hot for low speed, 1 hot for high speed,1 hot for park. the switch has a hot lead on the off position, when it is energized it feeds a ring in the motor with a slot missing in it that's how they stop. so i would look at the motor and not worry so much on the existing toggles....

Fred and Roger - thanks for the emails. It seems then, that these later two-speed motors have a switch internally to Park and "Off' and that the toggle switch and rotary switch need to be ON/ON/ON therefore. It also seems that there was never a rotary switch on a Cobra with two-speed wipers that did that as standard. I will then need a modern switch that has all three 'hot' positions and a fluted knob to suit.

Really Liam's suggestion of the hot rod one (WIPER SWITCHES UNIVERSAL 2 speed and washer funtion | eBay) seems cheapest with a knob fitted. The ones pictured in the first post are from and ERA and are not available separately, I believe. Lots of fluted knobs around in yacht shops and electrical stores.

FWB 08-21-2011 01:21 PM

that one you posted the link to....is a cole-hersee switch........i would ask for the manufacturers part number to be sure its the right one for dynamic park
