Unfortunately the previous owner may have stamped the number on to give prospective buyers the hope that process had been followed on the way to registration.

Worst case is it worth getting a new chassis fabricated by a company that can be registered?

Not sure the carby would pass muster...

Thanks very much for your replies, there is some very good information here. I did suggest to him to buy a new chassis and use all the parts on this, as it would give him a good base to start from.

I would have your friend take more detail photos and then head into Federation Square this Sunday. There will be at least 20 Cobras pm display there along with owners. It would be an ideal chance to check cars out and discuss your friends project (problem)
