Corner Weight Gauge

Has anyone had any experience with these? They look a cheap way of measuring corner weights and then adjusting suspension settings. Not sure if they are available in Australia.

Merv ... tried one of those some years ago when dirt track racing and could never get consistent , repeatable results . We think it may have had something to do with the fact that when you lift one tire/wheel off the ground , even very slightly , the cars weight shifts a little also . It is also very location sensitive ... i.e , make sure it is exactly in the same place each time . It will probably get you close , but won`t be as accurate as scales ( obviously ) .

Thanks Bob. I can see that raising one wheel a little could transfer some weight to other wheels, but that could be fixed with some spacers under the other wheels of the same height perhaps. I am not looking for the perfect measurement but there are no places I can find near me that seem to have wheel weighing equipment. I thought that others may have faced the same issue as wheel weights are so important for suspension set up.

You know Merv, those scales are the sort of thing a CLUB should buy, so that ALL the members could take advantage of it. Keeping track of it should fall to either the secretary or club captain !
Just a thought

Merv,

One of the clubbie groups has a set of corner weight pads that does the rounds for a small fee if you're a member. Give El Prez a rev about it.

Somewhere on the net there is an article about building one of those hydraulic weight checkers.

Otherwise get Steve Williams to set your corner weights up for you. That also get an experienced eye to check otherwise missed items out as well.

Cheers

Thanks Rog and Geoff. Good ideas. I am sure such a device could be useful. I will also check out Fulcrum Suspensions next week.

Good suggestion Geoff. These guys ( Rebco Performance Online -- International Dealer Locator Details For Australia ) seem to have some. It picks up on Bob's point about consistency too.

Just got home from the Cobra breakfast meeting....Great roll up again...not quite 100 attended....a Good vibe...and lots of laughs.
BUT.....you wouldn't believe it...I was saying how the club is pretty financial at the moment, and I suggested we could probably look at buying some "Club" gear...and I actually suggested a set of scales for the corner weights ...so we must have been using E.S.P.

Would something like this be the go ??

Corner Weight Scales | Computer scales | Car Weigh bridge | Car Weigh pads | Race Car flat patch | Racing Flat patch |

I'll look into it next week.

Cheers,
Warren

Warren

I was only talking to Trevor this morning about measuring corner weights. I reckon a set for the club would be a great idea and very well used.

ESP it is! Those would be great.

Useful article on the issue: Corner Weighting

I also see Summit have quite a few:

Wazza,

The wired scales are good but one needs to be mindful that the cables can be damaged; wireless scales don't have that issue, obviously, but are more expensive. Things to be considered.

Cheers

Of course you can Phil.... all you need to do is compete in the A series this year..... :D

Philm 11-06-2011 04:05 PM

I have sent in my interest, waiting for them to mail the stuff.

I am keen to do it, thought it may be time to get serious and give it a good go.

Interested in the corner weighting, I have not done that to my car ever so good knows what its like.

I also need to find the 100hp I lost with the rebuild, the last minute dyno session tuesday before the nationals we could only get 400RWHP:CRY:

Just to let you ( Queenslanders ) know, that I'm on top of this.....

Spoke to the supplier GMP Racing in Victoria, and the first thing I've discovered is that the WIRELESS set, has some real issues here in Australia.

For some unknown reason, they don't transmit correctly, and he suggested the CABLE type.

Corner Weight Scales | Computer scales | Car Weigh bridge | Car Weigh pads | Race Car flat patch | Racing Flat patch |

Basically the same equipment, but the cables give a more accurate and consistent result.....and are about half the price of the Wireless ones....

They're having a "special" on them at the moment @ $1,499-00.

Getting some opinions fom " Experts" in the club, and will make a decision in the next day or so.

There may also be other "gear" that would be of use by members....
I will give it some thought.

These scales , and maybe other equipment...would be available for all financial members...( and maybe we could hire / lend for a donation to others )

We'd need to keep this sort of stuff in a club register, work out where to keep it...

I'm happy to keep it here at my warehouse between uses, and when they're not away with some member being used, maybe a group of members could arrange to meet here to use them, and also my hoist if needed for other stuff....

Makes for a nice Saturday at the warehouse.... ....Sausage sizzle/beers/race car videos / cornerweighting / under car inspections and repairs.....You know the NORMAL Saturday....

Also we'd need to make a set of basic "rules" of use.....

like in the case of damage caused through misuse, and little things like that....but all this can be sorted, and should be a nice for the members to have.

Cheers,
Warren.

Great thing for a well organized club.

Merv and Sharon 11-06-2011 11:57 PM

Well done Warren. Now for that list of users ...

Wazza 11-08-2011 04:21 PM

One set of Corner weght Scales...

Corner Weight Scales | Computer scales | Car Weigh bridge | Car Weigh pads | Race Car flat patch | Racing Flat patch |

Ordered this morning...and on the way.

Merv....you can break them in for us if you want.....

I'll advise when they arrive.

Cheers,
Warren.

Merv and Sharon 11-08-2011 04:28 PM

Thanks Warren that would be great. Maybe before they will arrive before the Christmas function at Twin Waters and you could bring them up, if so.
