As promised this morning, more magazine history of 3150. Was bought in '79 by David Ratcliff as an investment for a reported $35k, a big punt back then, from Frank Foster of Kameruka Cheese fame in Bega. Frank had it converted to RHD, and painted blue, in UK before importing it to Aus. The previous owner Peter Sherriden had painted it green. So it seems it has been painted; 1 originaly silver, 2 Red, 3 Green, 4 Blue, 5 back to Red, 6 back to Silver

As mickmate posted cover of Aust Classic Car Dec '95

Contents page......

Rear shot. Apparently this is his brother driving

This one is the cover of Sports Car World Apr/May '86.

The auther of the article, Peter McKay, gave Cobra's a real sledging the whole article through. I have the B&W pics from this article also

Another from Sports car world '86 with owner David driving

Thanks for the scans David. Looks like the bonnet is partially open in that last shot!

Brilliant and many thanks David. As I think I may have said before, there has got to be a good book on Cobras in Australia.

A good retirement project maybe? Would have chapters on originals, racing, early replicas, robnells, and the list goes on ...

funny you should say that merv, its not an australian book, but every one of you are going to want this book. i was in melbourne several weeks ago and attended motoclassica on the first morning it opened, over 100 million dollars worth of vehicles in the grand exibition building, very very impressive. one of the trade stands upstairs was the pitstop bookshop from perth and while browsing i found this book , SHELBY COBRA FIFTY YEARS by colin comer, hot off the press, an advanced copy and the only one in australia. its hardcover, 255 pages and a bargain at $49.95. fantastically written and researched, colour and black and white photos, the full history of cobras and racing history, daytonas and all the guys who made the legend. its written by a mad enthuist who owns a couple of originals and is obviosly very well conected to have all the info and photos that are in this book.they said they will be getting more copies in but didnt know when, sorry its a bit late now for a chrissy present, ive been going to post this thread for a while now, so get on the blower, first in best dressed, FREECALL 1800622422,

Don't have much time to dig for the many photos I have of CSX3150, but here is one from my gallery when it was blue taken at Bowdens. Enjoy.

If you want some testimony of CSX 3150 during the Golden Ages (in fact, June 66) you can read these article in my "frog" magazine (bought new by my father and carefully kept since). Sorry it's in French !
Enjoy the black & white pictures of the car ! You can see there was no hood scoop, but some rectangular tail lights and sunburst wheels, among others details.

The third page is about 427 Cobras and C. Shelby, and contains an interview of great french driver Jo Schlesser, who was racing some 289 at that time. For the happy guys who can read french, enjoy this short interview, absolutely delightful : how to overtake D. Piper and his P-2 Ferrari ? simple ! Just put into fourth gear, and "bye-Bye Piper" !

I think I might have two copies of that book at home, presents from a couple of years back.

If I do I will advise just in case someone wants one.

Cheers,

Ben

The Legate book is really outstanding, even more so for the brilliant photography and for its coverage of 'Replicas'.

I think you have made us all jealous Joe. One of your Apex guys up here saw the cars recently and was very impressed. Hope they make it up here at some stage.
