Default Container cranes.

Here's an interesting thread from a bike forum I visit.

Ship of Cranes - Stromtrooper Forum : Suzuki V-Strom Motorcycle Forums

I'd always assumed that container cranes were built and assembled locally but it seems that even monsters like these are "Made in China" and transported to ports around the world.

You'd have to think the ships would have an industrial-strength version of Bondy's winged keel to keep them upright. I can think of lots of places I'd rather be than on one of them in a decent storm!

Looks pretty imposing. If it's cost is aligned with all other shipping & logistics pricing, they would cost about as much as the Greek financial system currently needs as a bailout package...

Interesting, I just demolished one in Gloucester NJ 2 weeks ago right on the Del River. It was a Paceco Crane built in the 60's and retrofitted in the 90's to handle heavier containers. We put some strategic cuts in it and pulled it over with 2 @ 100,000 lb excavators and 1 1/4" cables-there is a You Tube video of it but I do not know how to post links. If you search Paceco crane demo or Gloucester crane demo it will come up.

You may be amazed at how the lattice tubing makes these things stable, once you cut it out; however, all bets are off-the thing came down like a house of cards only a bit more controlled since that is what I do evryday
