I bought mine private, complete. At least you can drive it, so you know the engine is ok. Then you strip it, sell all the parts and get half your money back. Mines got a new lpg, new suspension, good body, tyres etc. Should be able to get back a thousand. That way with a decent engine you can get it registered, then do what you like after.

Nah AU's are easy to dissarm.

You buy a chip that plugs into the back of the ECu that turns off immob, VSS and body control module with manual option. I bought the chip and plugged it into my AU 205kw motor and it started easy. The chip was about $150 or so.

Ryder, if you want to obtain full street registration you will need to use an AU Falcon engine. It is the only Australian 302 engine that meets the required ADR 37/01 emissions.

You can also use USA producton engines as well, best are from the early to mid-nineties Mustang HO.

I like your idea of buying a running car as you need to be aware of engines sitting for a long time, like those that have already been removed from vehicles. The AU Falcon engines seem to be very reliable, even when they are far north of 200,000 k's on them. Tickford hand built all the later AU XR8 engines.

Good luck in your search.

Really? Hmm very interesting...
Where did you get it from?

Thank you all for the advice, looks like I need to have a chat with the engineer a running maybe unregistered AU is looking like a good option if I can find one! You know, once my chassis is actually finished and delivered... lol
