I'd be buying that and putting one of Scotty's Turbo Lexus motors in it. Probably way more fun and less effort that rebuilding the lichen farm.

You've got a good drag racing facility in Alice so it would get plenty of use.

Paint it up in the same scheme as Mildred.

Cheers

Don't know whether you're aware Dave but your humble Mildred was available as a Corona GT5.
A pretty looking 2 door Coupe with the twin cam & 5 speed g'box.
I had a real good look at one up close when I was about 16- 17 and it went passed me at Lucas Hts in Sydney when it was all bush. I made the bastard work hard to get by ( Me in a hot Morrie Minor series 2 !!) [ is there such a thing !??!] and chased it down to the old Lugarno ferry.
Turns out the car was following another car-can't remember what- and the driver was from Wheels or Modern Motor or Sports Car World or something, and they were doing a road test for the mag. The driver got out for a chat while we were waiting for the ferry, and wanted to know how come the Morrie was so hard to pass ! I reckon we were doing about 75-80 mph when he went passed & the prick changed gear right beside my window!!
At the time all I wanted to know was what sort of Toyota is that and where can I get one & it's got a 5 speed g/box !! Really ! A 5 speed !??! 5 speeds at the time 1966-67 were only found in flash stuff like Aston's & the like, not in stuff from Japan-!!
Do a Google image search & there are shed loads of your sketch there !
Go for the chop Mate, it'll look great I reckon.

The GT5 was never officially available in Oz from what I understand, but a few did and still do make there way here.
They had a 9R or 10R engine from memory (1.6 litre Yamaha head twin cam)

The GT5 was coupe only (same shell as standard coupe) but they had little vents top rear side of front guards.

The Australian 1600S (sedan model) had a very similar interior with tacho round dial dash.

Just a little update with body mods on Corona.

I have moved B pillar rearward about 150mm, increasing door length, and removing rear door to make a large quarter panel.
In this picture the roof line is unchanged.
Plan is to taper roof down at rear, still bot convinced to lower front of roof (will decide after seeing a side profile with taper).

Mustang sold and was delivered over the weekend, so some cleaning up and shuffling of cars, the Corona now has its own little corner.
After doing some mowing, mopping and general house stuff I had a little time left before the Football started on Saturday night (my poor Roo boys are out but was happy to make prelims after start of season)
So Saturday arvo I removed the right side B pillar, added some braces and started working out where to cut.

More bracing is going in over the next few days before roof cut is fully done.

Have cut at base of C pillar, also from door opening corner to corner of roof shape.

Have cut along the length of roof at the body crease.

Sunday I only had a couple hours to play (as I had promised to spend time with the hugs and kisses). So while Ronda was at work I got my truck into the shed and started measuring for tray banana bed extension.
Regs allow for 60% of wheel base (or max 3 metres) past the rear axle centreline.
So this gave me a measurement of 2520mm past centreline.
My wheel base is 4200mm.
In the following pics I have clamped a piece of wood in place to give me an idea of angle, length etc.
I have the wood at 2400 past centreline, leaving me room for a trailer tow hitch reciever. The truck itself is rated at 9tonne.

I am not sure, but I may even make the angle less, although I am confident Cobra will go up that angle ok.
I will also make/buy alluminium ramps for the last section.
Also will make a bulkhead, but push it forward as far as possible to allow room for a big winch.
The box section steel on rear of tray, is actually at max length.

Busy with other stuff and Bathurst this week.

I couldn't see the Alumina being anywhere near ready for another year at least.
