Sold to a very nice gentleman from Cairns. He is delighted with the car. I had two other buyers in wait as well. All wanted the Ford motor connection, which in Qld is still possible They will have a good group up in Cairns soon!

OZCOBRA, steeler and Rog246 like this.

I was going to say congratulations Merv...but...as long as you're happy that's what counts.

We hope to see the new owner on here soon too!

Merv

Well done with the sale. Great car, right price ... sold! Looking forward to seeing your progress with the Porch. Photos and stories here please. Unless there is a Porch Forum.

Geof

Many thanks Don, Modern, Murray, Geof and Leigh for the nice comments (Leigh I have some QA1: 10-300s still). It was a fair price I felt. One could hang one for 6 months and get a bit more. I figure that there are about 20 folk at any time in Australia looking for a Cobra, and with the disposable cash to buy in these straightened times. They aren't Mazdas, and the buyer must find what they want.

Tom, I have mentioned the rally in Cairns and also a few other Cobra owners up there. I will connect him with you Tom. He is an experienced person in many things mechanical and a Ford aficionado. He has a Ford (FPV) GT.

The car will go on the truck some time next week. That will be the sad time. Geof, the little Porsche is an early (68) SWB with matching numbers on the engine, gearbox and chassis and an original COA (Certificate of Authenticity). They are starting to get crazy prices, especially the S series in what is a world market for these cars. It is a 45 year old car, but is rust free (they say in old Porsches, that means you haven't found it yet) originally from inland California. I put some repro Recaro Sports seats in with the houndstooth upholstery that it was originally built with. It is Guards Red and goes really well. The build quality on the early 911's was excellent. I am going to strip the whole underbody however (horrible heat gun and scraper job) and prime it and then some body shutz. There are at least 5 good Porsche Forums that are very helpful and full of technical info. I also need to change a whole range of gaskets and the Fuchs wheels need to be stripped and the alloy polished (not chromed). The 'job list' is long, mostly correcting parts with OEM ones. The car has a complete tool kit (they now sell for over $3000 on eBay and the forums).

A couple of photos as requested. There is certainly another Cobra in my future and it will most probably be a car from Absolute Pace.

Looks great Merv. Are you leaving it LHD? Where did you buy the seats?

Love the car Merv. I would love to build an early RSR replica one day like below.

Congrats three fold over Merv.
1) for sale the of a great looking cobra.
2) on the Porsche. I'm really a fan of the old school porsches including the 356
&
3) on any pending dealings with absolute pace.
Craig has been fantastic to me despit having nothing in it for him.

Best wishes moving forwards.

Ps. Congrats to the buyer also. I humbly think he got a steal!

Yes Craig, it stays LHD. It would devalue it to change it over. I drove for some years in the US, Norway and in Italy. I find it quite natural, except the 'box is a dog leg with first left and down (and reverse left and up - where first would normally be).

Thanks Mike. The motor is sweet, is redlined at 7000 and has little torque below 3k. It has a great sound with the two K & N-filtered triple Webers. Quite the opposite of the Cobra in terms of revs and torque.

Craig - the seats are from a company in Italy that makes a range of great replica seats. BF Torino (Home Page ) does the seats from the 60's and 70's and they are advised as being compliant here by the Porsche specialists. Also quite narrow. Could be interesting for Cobras. They have an agent in Melbourne with good prices. The houndstooth (originally called 'pepita') inserts can be in any pattern, even your Scottish heritage. See:

http://shop.bf-torino.com/bf-autositze/lemans.html/

The Porsche guys seem to be in two camps. Those obsessed (the correct word) with originality (down to the make of a bolt, or type of vinyl) and those making 'outlaws' or RS/RSR/ and so on, replicas. Some of the late 70's SCs are near unbreakable and really do the business.

Merv, Rethink the shutz stuff. If you are going to the trouble of stripping the old stuff. Have a look at ute tray liner compounds. I believe that there are do it yourself packs now. I've done all the under guards on my cobra and it's spot on....wipes clean with a wet rag and totally stone resistant.

Thanks Rob. The Shutz was the original stuff and was so tough that the cars rusted under the Shutz (!). I agree with you however, and I am looking at some of the the new POR range. Wurth seem to have some good products as well. Will check out the ute liner compounds.
