Default Hobbies

Those that know me know that I live in a care faculity as a Brain tumor has paralized me down my left side, so to keep myself amused (as it's boring as hell here)I do matchstick pictures, now my Grandfather did the eagle (this was a coffee table) and he did the ship but he never got to finish it I inherited it and finished it and that got me going, attached is some of my work and rhe Harley one I entered in the Perth Royal Show in the crafts section using recycled materials and stuff me out of the whole of W.A. I won second place any lettering you see is bent matches then painted so what hobbies have you got besides cars?

Hi petrolhead, love the attention to detail, not to mention the patience on display there. You must be setting off the smoke alarms on a regular basis!

One of my other hobbies is remote control planes. I fly a quad rotor aircraft using FPV or "first person view" equipment. This involves a flight camera on the front of the machine transmitting real time video to an LCD TV, laptop or special goggles on the ground which allow the aircraft to be flown much further away than if you were flying line of sight with the naked eye. With the right conditions (and safety measures) you can fly many miles away, behind trees, buildings, etc.

Most people also fit a second camera (GoPro or similar) to record the flight in hidef and it makes for impressive viewing. Check out the videos below to see what I mean (no I'm not the pilot). The first one is more relaxed and scenic, the second one faster and the motors are annoying after a while but you get the idea.

Dave's hobby is to rescue filthy stinking old valiants.

My son and I spend a fair bit of time fishing here on the Murray River.
It is a good chance to find out what is on his mind, he is yet to work that bit out yet

Petrolhead, your matchstick art is awesome! Well done!

As to my hobbies, when I have spare cash, I like to get up and fly. Got my private pilot's licence in 2004 and have just under 200 hours up incl. my night endorsement, high performance and complex aircraft endorsements, too.

A friend of mine owns a Victa Airtourer which is an ex-Singapore Air Force aerobatic trainer. I go flying with him about every 6 weeks. Last time we went up, I piloted 4 x 4G vertical loops over Westernport Bay. That was cool!

My Daughter and I do Archery. We shoot at a local club that does simulated hunting (Field Archery) it's a bit more interesting than standing on a line and shooting at a target across a flat field. We shoot at varying distances, up and down hills, through trees etc. It's good fun.

Here's Lauren with her first Robin Hood shot

We only shoot ferral cardboard boxes.

If we see one of these runing around in the bush we leave it alone.

Plenty of feral ones like that out here Mike.

As Gav has indicated, my hobby is collecting old Valiants from out bush.
Now I really dont know why I get some of them, but I cant help the sad thought of leaving it out there all on its own.
Here are some.
1968 Valiant VIP, floor shifted V8 auto, The VIP from this year model on had an extra 100mm added to the vehicles body length.
I grabbed it for the disk brakes, engine and gearbox.

Same trip I also picked up this 1972 VH Charger, it is just a base model, but is very good for rust repair section in the areas that rust badly.

Got this one a few years ago, now being restored in Newcastle.

Here is one that I am fixing (Or atleast used a big chunk of this one)

Here is bottom half of car above.

And here is one I grabbed last Monday (Aussie day public holiday).
Dragged it onto its side first.

Backed trailer under it as far as possable, and layed plyboard down and lowered it back down.

The skull dragged it onto trailer.

Building wooden model ships. Currently on HMS Victory model, planking the hull. Twelve planks on and only another 800 odd to go. Was going to build a cobra ( real, not model) but bought one on registered and ready to run. It's quicker to build a wooden model ship, only another 12 to 18 months to finish it.
