Another day and what doesn't look like much progress. But I guess any progress is good progress.

Welded a nut to the chassis and made an earth lead from the gearbox.

Painted the rear transmission mount.

My fuel pumps are PWM compatible, I will only run them in low speed mode so bridged the negative to the speed control pin with a piece of brass stock that I got from the local hobby shop.

Then enlarged the body hole to fit the shifter, tipped in 4 litres of oil to the gearbox, RTV'd the shifter in place and made an aluminium trim panel. I sanded the panel and I will paint it, although the more I look at the finish the more I like it!

The shift knob is from speed-dawg. The shift stick came with the shifter when Mike did the gearbox, it's bent to the left for the US market, it will do for now until I make something to replace it.

Top marks Aussie Mike for the tip on filling the gearbox through the shifter hole, dumped straight in!

Is it far enough forward, Ben? If not, could you perhaps reverse the mounting so it not only bends forwards but also then to the right instead of the left?

Hi guye,

I don't know about precise positioning yet as the driver's seat is not bolted in at the moment, but reversing it would place it way too far forward. I don't like the look of it anyway, so it will get replaced.

Good to see it in place Ben.

The shift lever can be tweaked to suit. I figured leave it as is till you got it in place. We can put the lever in the press and bend it to where you need it. Bring the lever with you when you pick up your rear brakes.

Cheers

Dragway "Cobra 10-spoke" wheels arrived, 17x8 and 17x10

245/40/17 and 275/40/17 rubber ready and waiting

no pics of wheels on yet, some more jobs to do before that can happen.

Also lately I have finished the power steering plumbing, finished the fuel line plumbing, finished the pressure cooling system (still to do overflow) and a few other odds and sods. Still a long list of small jobs to do, and to tackle the rest of the exhaust system....October isn't far away, eek!

The wheels are a soft look-bead profile rim. The front wheel centre is cut from a 50mm billet, the rear is a 65mm billet due to a slightly bigger rear boss for caliper clearance. Wheel nuts are hidden behind the cap you can see retained by the small M5 cap screws, and the centre/cap is painted.

Nice Ben. Those wheels look great. Clever setup for hiding the nuts.

Does the spinner just clip on or does that screw on. If so, will you still need to wire it for track days?

Spinner is bolted on to the cap, will remove them for the track.

Get those tyres mounted and take some pics.

Seriously, looks good, Dragway have really stepped up with that wheel. The lip and the center are slick, nice modern retro look, I like it. I presume that this will work well as the CR has limited options for wheels with dish an adapters and spinners.

Very good choice.

Great progress Ben, keep pushing, you'll make it.

Wheels look great, I agree with Guye, Dragway have stepped up there compared to a lot of there previous offerings. That centre cap arrangement fits really well.

Those wheels are very impressive - much nicer than the old dragways and up there with Team-3 which IMO makes the nicest bolt on Halibrands. Looking great Ben.

What are you riding mate?

Oh yes! Mount those darn tyres and wheels, they'll make you feel like your progress has moved forward leaps and bounds. It's funny how they go a long way to completing the car. Well done mate! Congrats.

Default Hoist

Hey Ben,

The offer is still on the table for fixing my car @ SF, the hoist is yours

when you need it. I can even pick the car up on the trailer.

Thanks stiffy, haven't needed a hoist yet after 3.5 years of build and I have the sore back to prove it, it sure would have made things easier having one in my garage though. I'm sure I will want to use it at some point!

cheers.

Cudos to Ben on the wheels,
A lot went on in the back ground to make this work with Dragway and fitting to the CR, including the new spinner design (doesn't stick out past the rims) and still fits over the big AP calipers, front and rear and within the guards, still showing some rim.

Dragway (Marnie, Shane and Neil) have been great to deal with and supplied a mockup unwelded wheel to play with and then unwelded production wheel to confirm with.
You cant get better service than this and from a local supplier.

Looking forward to mine arriving.
Cheers from Dave

Those wheels look fantastic.

I might have to find something wrong with my old OZwheels and get a wheel upgrade. I am sure the CFO would understand - NOT :-(

Cant wait to see them with some rubber on them and mounted on the CR

cheers Gregg

Today I built a side-pipe! My pipes will be functional. 4" tube. inner 2.5" perforated and it will be stuffed with steel wool stuff.

The inner tube and mounting rings/hardware are stainless, the rest is mild steel. The 4-into-1 are 2".

The tailpipe piece is flanged and will get mounted with a through-bolt so the internal baffle and stuffing can be removed and rebuilt.

Still have to clean up some more welds and will finalise the 90-degree tail pipe once it is mounted on the car.

That is cool, and a really great idea. I can see you trying different materials for sound variations. With clever material selection, that cold also be cool to the touch, nice for side pipes.

Nice garage flooring, just needs a sweep.
