boxhead, there is maybe room to shuffle the tranny back about 60mm, and about 75mm in front of the engine so you could split them in car - it would be ugly though, on a hoist with a tranny jack it might be easy enough, as Mike says these T-56 are not one to be easily chucked about.
Going in as one unit when the balancer cleared the body at the front there was a good couple of inches clearance in the tunnel, and we could have gone for more angle. Pretty easy really, don't know what I was worried about!
